This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due on Wednesday 06 October.
I can write a dialogue as the introduction to a story.
Class 5 need to practise writing a story with dialogue. Here are some important points to remember when writing a dialogue:
- Use speech marks before and after speech – we refer to these as 66 and 99.
- Other speech punctuation should come inside the speech marks, so write “Really?” not “Really”?
- Adverb and Adjective groups should add adverbs and “enders”, as we’ve discussed in class.
- If a new speaker starts talking, their speech should be on a new line.
For example:
“Hello Mr Owen! How are you today?” asked Mr Roundtree.
“I’m fine thanks. Did you get my email about Class 5’s wonderful dialogues?” replied Mr Owen.
“Yes. They look great!” said Mr Roundtree.
Not:
“Hello Mr Owen! How are you today?” asked Mr Roundtree. “I’m fine thanks. Did you get my email about Class 5’s wonderful dialogues?” replied Mr Owen. “Yes. They look great!” said Mr Roundtree.
I look forward to reading your dialogues!
