This week’s homework is Talk Time.
I can use connectives to discuss the news.
This is designed to fit in with our new literacy unit on Newspaper Reports. Children should find some news stories either in papers or on the internet (www.bbc.co.uk/newsround is good for children) and then discuss the stories with adults, using some of the connectives that they have as this week’s spellings.
Talk time is a great way to improve children’s writing skills; you can’t write it if you can’t say it. It’s best if an adult starts first to show the children how to use the connectives in full sentences. A topical examples could be:
“I think teachers and other public sector workers shouldn’t strike because it affects children’s learning.”
“I understand your point, however, the government is trying to cut their pensions heavily.”
“Despite teachers’ pensions being reduced, they still get more than many people in society.”
