We’ve learnt three patterns when changing adjectives to adverbs ending in ‘ly’.
- When an adjective ends in an ‘e’
Drop the ‘e’, and add a ‘y’: gentle è gently
- When an adjective ends in a ‘y’
Drop the ‘y’ for and ‘i’: grumpy è grumpily
- When an adjective ends in ‘ic’
Add ‘ally’: dramatic è dramatically
Now, children have been asked to change the ‘alien words’ below from their adjective form to become an adverb, ending in ‘ly’. Remember to follow the patterns that we’ve spotted above. On Friday 21st June, we’ll be tested on the real words from last week – this exercise is just good practice at changing words.
