This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due in on Thursday 17th September.

I can edit squashed sentences.

This week, we’ve discussed that a ‘squashed sentence’ is when we have two sentences joined together incorrectly without punctuation or a conjunction. It’s wrong!

For example:

Mr Owen teaches in Y5 he likes grammar.

(squashed sentence)

This should be…

Mr Owen teaches in Y5. He likes grammar.      OR        Mr Owen teaches in Y5 and he likes grammar.

(two sentences)                                                                        (joined using a conjunction: and)

For your homework, we’d like children to correct the sentences they’ve been given so that there are no squashed sentences. You can either add full stops or conjunctions. There are some missing commas to find for bonus points.

If you’re looking for a challenge, think about what other punctuation might go between the sentences instead of a full stop.
