Over the last couple of weeks in Year 4, we’ve been learning about the importance of a healthy, balanced diet.
We began by discussing the five main food groups. They all have a different function and help our bodies in different ways.
- Carbohydrates provides us with energy.
- Fruit and vegetables provide us with vitamins and minerals.
- Dairy is full of calcium which helps our bones and teeth stay strong and healthy.
- Protein helps our muscles repair and grow.
- Fats and oils provide us with energy and help our body absorb vitamins and minerals.
As these five food groups all have a different function, it’s important that we have a balanced diet to keep our bodies strong and healthy. We can use the Eatwell Guide to help us.
Year 4 had a go at creating their own Eatwell Guides…
Help at home: plan a balanced meal with your child and check you have a balanced amount of each food group.
