Yoga
This afternoon, we’ve been stretching and relaxing in a yoga class. We’ve made animal and plant poses from all around the world. We’ve talked about our bodies and what they need, different types of animals and their habitats, pollution and even deforestation.
Book Fair
We’ve just visited the book fair. We had a story read to us about a messy monster called Jumblebum who lives in the bedrooms of untidy children. We’ve all chosen our books and are now back in class reading them.
This week
Maths
We’ve been looking at column subtraction in Maths this week. Check out the calculation policy for more information.
English
In English we’ve been looking at narratives. We’ve discussed using DAD paragraphs (dialogue action or description) to keep a reader interested in the stories we’ve been writing. We have used this video as a stimulus. Why not ask your child to retell the story once they have re-watched it?
Assembly
Thank you to everyone who came to see our class assembly. We had a great time putting it together!
PE
This half-term, we will be doing football with a coach from Leeds United. Here are a few images from our first session.
Life
As part of our Life Big Topic, we had a yoga session this week. Can you identify the animals that inspired these poses?
World Book Day menu
World Book Day is celebrated on 03 March and during that week (Wednesday 02 March) we will be having a World Book Day Roald Dahl menu for school dinners.
Attendance matters…
Our attendance figures are looking good – thanks for your support in ensuring your child is at school.
- Reception: 96.0%
- Year 1: 98.1% – brilliant!
- Year 2: 97.6%
- Year 3: 97.8% – good stuff
- Year 4: 98.2% – fantastic!
- Year 5: 97.4%
- Year 6: 97.7%
The whole school figure is 97.6%. You will find out your own child’s attendance figure at the parent-teacher appointments next week.
Please remember that attendance below 90% is regarded by the Department for Education as persistent absenteeism.
8Rs for learning
Resilience, resourcefulness, readiness, responsibility, risk-taking, responsiveness, remembering and …reflection.
This week we complete our 8Rs SEAL theme. Children will have the opportunity to not only reflect on their learning in general but also reflect on how the 8Rs supports their learning.
Talk with your child about what they’ve learnt, asking questions about how they learnt, why they learnt it, when they’ll use their learning, how they would teach this to someone else, what learning might link with what they’ve learnt today…
Can your child remember the 8Rs and the associated animal?
Polished performance
This week is the final week of our Autumn term after-school clubs.
It was great to see so many parents come to watch the routine learnt by children attending the popular dance club led by Edward Lynch.
Edward has worked with class teachers in curriculum PE to develop their teaching of dance and his enthusiasm for this subject has certainly rubbed off on the children who attended this club.
- ‘It was an amazing club.”
- ‘I like dance even more now.’
27 November 2015
Following our Health themed week, this week, our whole school homework is creative and is due on Wednesday 02 December.
I make healthy choices.
Each class has taken part in a variety of learning this week including a range of visitors to support our teaching of keeping healthy (please see our Class News pages).
Your child could present this creative homework in a variety of different ways:
- a quiz which tests the knowledge of other children
- art work
- poetry
- a poster
- writing: diary, story, letter, instructions, report
- a rap
- a mindmap
- your own creative idea
We look forward to seeing your creative ideas to demonstrate how to keep healthy and this homework will be the focus of our open afternoon, next week.
Homework open afternoon, 2.40pm on Wednesday 02 December – parents/carers of children in Years 1 – 6 are invited into the classroom to help you to be aware of the standards of homework in your child’s class; it will also give you an insight into how we give feedback to your child even if the homework does not appear to be marked.
