We’re proud that Miss Rushbrooke is one of three Specialist Leaders of Education at Moortown Primary.
Q. Where do you come from?
A. I was born in an exotic land called… Rotherham! Unfortunately, it’s not exotic at all but will always be home. My Mum and Dad still live there so I pop down as often as I can as it’s not too far away. When I was at University I lived in Liverpool which was very exciting and I now live in York and love it; the journey over here’s not as bad as I thought it would be either!
Q. What is your favourite subject?
A. I’m a scientist at heart and love bringing investigation and experiments into the classroom. I studied Oceanography at University and, as Year 2 know, still love it as I’ve named their groups after the five oceans. Although science is my favourite, I really enjoy creative subjects such as art, drama and music.
Q. What is your favourite food?
A. I love olives! The really bright green ones are the best.
Q. What is your favourite animal?
A. Owls. It’s amazing how they can turn their heads, they have beautiful eyes and look so strong and graceful when they fly. It’s becoming a bit of an obsession now though with my owl bag, water bottle, folder…
Q. What is your favourite sport?
A. I’m not amazing at any sports but have always loved to play them. I most enjoy tennis, particularly if it’s a sunny day, and sometimes play netball. I’m also a bit of a football nut, often going to see my team (Rotherham) play. They got promoted last season and are doing well so far; fingers crossed they keep it up.
Q. Why did you want to work in a school?
A. I have lots of interests and want to know about history, geography, literacy, maths, music… Being a teacher means: I can keep a finger in every pie; enthuse children to love everything or find what they love; and keep learning myself.
