This week’s spellings are different words that can be used instead of ‘said’. Learning these words will help the children in their writing. These spellings will be tested on Friday 01 July 2011.

‘said’ word

example of how to use it

admitted

“I think we’re lost,” admitted Jack.

boasted

Jack boasted, “I won the race!”

commanded

“Give me that!” commanded Jack.

complained

“Aren’t we there yet?” complained Jack.

demanded

“I want an ice-cream NOW!” demanded Jack.

mumbled

“I’m getting sleepy,” mumbled Jack.

pleaded

Jack pleaded, “Just one more biscuit mum!”

suggested

“We could play outside,” suggested Jack.

taunted

“My bike is better,” taunted Jack.

wailed

Jack wailed, “I don’t want to go to bed!”
