21 April 2020: Home learning

Tuesday 21 April 2020

Good morning! I hope you are enjoying the lovely weather.

Here are today’s home learning activities.

In addition to these activities, there are lots of good lessons and ideas on BBC Bitesize.

The lessons begin from Year 1 but some of the games and ideas look to be suitable for younger children. They are even showing  Numberblocks!

Phonics

Practise your letter formation in your home learning book.

Remember all the letters start on the line with a lead-in!

Words to write:

chip food queen ship

Please read the words to your child. They can then write them in their home learning book.

Phonics activity:

Can you write a sentence including one of the above words?

Remember that at this stage we are looking for children’s phonetic attempts at words. It is important your child grows into an independent learner. Encouraging your child to write the words as they sound rather than always spelling correctly is important. It encourages the children to use their own skills – rather than copy from an adult.

Literacy

Book of the week: The smartest giant in town

Listen to the story of the week.

Draw a story map of the story.

Here is an example of a story map.

Don’t forget to send me photos of your story maps.

Maths 1 less

Count backwards from 20 using the song.

Oh no! The song seems to have forgotten the number 0! We talk lots about the number 0 being nothing but still being a number. Try to sing the number 0 when singing the song.

Solve the number problems.

Draw the number stories. Can you make your own story?

Extra activity

I am really enjoying going outside and walking.

Have you noticed how the trees and plants are changing?

Can you draw or paint a picture to show that spring is here?

Have a lovely day!
