The homework this week is Talk Time and is due in Wednesday 27 March.

I can talk about ways to make amends if I have upset someone.

Unfortunately, there are times when we may have hurt someone’s feelings. We may have said or done something unkind. Next week, we’ll be looking at ways to make those situations better. For your homework, talk with an adult about ways to make amends if you’ve done something cruel or unkind.

Really good discussions will involve some reason and result connectives:

  • As a result,
  • This results in…
  • Consequently,
  • As a consequence,
  • Because of this,

Super Science  Day is postponed due to snow.  The homework below relates to this themed day.  We will have Super Science Day next Tuesday, 26 March.  The homework below will happen after the Easter holidays – it would be a good idea to have some talk time at home about Super Science after Tuesday’s themed day.

This week’s homework is both talk time and creative. It is due in on Wednesday 27 March 2013.

Today, everyone took part in a Super Science themed day in which they completed nine science activities. The learning objectives were:

  • I know that dyes are made up of other colours
  • I know why objects float
  • I can create a gas with a solid and a liquid
  • I know that static electricity creates a charge
  • I know about irreversible changes
  • I know the effects of a chemical reaction
  • I know what exercise does to my body
  • I am aware of acids and alkalis
  • I know what happens when you mix water with oil

In talk-time, we’d like the children to talk about what they have learnt and then, in creative homework, sum up their learning.  (Creative homework can be completed on the next page in the homework book so that a full page can be used.)

In class we have been discussing theme parks; as a moral issue, we’ve thought about whether animals should be kept in theme parks like Chessington and Flamingoland.  Your homework this week is talk time.

Should animals be kept in theme parks?

Think of and discuss points that you agree with and points that you disagree with.  Also think about a conclusion or summary.

Make notes in your homework book to show the things you discussed.  Homework is due in on Wednesday 20 March.

This week’s homework is a talk time homework and is due in on Wednesday 20 March.

Is space exploration a waste of money?

This is a moral homework and we want the children to be able to discuss, as a class, their views on the subject.

When we discuss the homework next week, we will also be encouraging the children to use different types of connectives when they make their points. See the below table.  Most have commas afterwards – this is a helpful way to show any sort of ‘add-in’.  You could encourage your child to speak using a slight pause where the comma might be – this can make any speaking more powerful.

This week’s homework is creative. It’s due in on Wednesday 13 March 2013.

I know what instructions are.

You could produce:

  • art work
  • cut out from a magazine
  • construct something
  • a poster
  • write instructions
  • draw
  • your own creative idea

The homework this week is Creative and is due in Wednesday 13 March.

I can create a recount of my weekend.

As most of you will be aware, we’re writing recounts at the moment. We want you to keep a log of your weekend and present it to us anyway you like. It’s completely up to you! If you’re struggling for ideas, why not try creating:

  • a written diary of the most exciting things that happened during your weekend
  • a photo diary with captions
  • a video diary
  • a podcast of the highlights of your weekend
