Homework this week is creative.

I can promote our forthcoming Year 5 and 6 production of Bugsy Malone.

It could be:

  • a radio advert
  • a poster
  • a TV advert using your windows movie maker skills
  • an interview with one of the cast, or
  • your own idea!

Homework is due in on Wednesday 06 July 2011.

This week’s homework is creative. It’s due in on Wednesday 6 July 2011.

I can calculate time intervals.

A time interval is the time between something starting and finishing. For example:

  • A bus journey
  • A TV programme
  • A train journey
  • A lesson
  • A cake baking in the oven

You can use number lines to calculate time intervals.

The homework this week is Practice Makes Perfect and is due in on Wednesday 6 June.

I know what a question is.

The aim of this homework is to develop the children’s understanding and use of questions.Ask your child some questions, eg ‘What is your favourite colour?’ ‘Who is your best friend? ‘

Read through the sheet with your child. They choose a ‘wh’ question word that makes sense to complete each sentence. Then play the game at the end.

The homework this week is Practice Makes Perfect and is due in on Wednesday 29 June.

I know other words for said.

We are just about to start writing stories in literacy and will be writing speech between characters. Therefore, your child has been tasked with finding as many different words for ‘said’ as possible, for example, shouted, whispered, replied etc. They can use dictionaries, thesauruses, the internet or other sources to find the different words. How they choose to present the information is completely up to your child.

The person who can find the most words will win a prize!

The homework this week is ‘Creative’ and is due in on Wednesday 29 June.

I can create a map of a journey I make.

Here are some ideas:

  • Bird’s-eye view map of their route to their school / grandparent’s house etc on paper or on a computer.
  • A constructed model of a familiar journey using Lego/K’nex etc.
  • Another idea would be for you to make the journey, taking a picture every few minutes.
  • Drawing your route is a great idea, too.

I look forward to seeing all the maps.

Your homework this week is creative and is due in on Wednesday 29 June.

I can express my opinion about Rebecca’s World.

We’ve been reading Rebecca’s World by Terry Nation. Homework is to produce a piece of work that tells me your opinion of the book.

This piece of work could be:

  • Some art work
  • A timeline
  • A cartoon strip of the story so far
  • An interview with you answering questions about as though you were one of the characters
  • A prediction of the exciting events still to come

Or…your own even more creative idea!

The homework this week is ‘Creative’ and is due in on Wednesday 29 June.

I can create a map of a journey I make.

As prospective navigators and explorers, your child will have to become accustomed to creating maps. This is your child’s chance to put their cartographic skills to the test and design a map of a familiar journey. Here are some ideas:

  • Bird’s-eye-view map of their route to school / grandparent’s house / friend etc on paper or on a computer.
  • A constructed model of a familiar journey using Lego/K’nex etc.
  • Another (more elaborate) idea would be for you to make the journey, taking a picture every few seconds.

As always, these ideas are here to inspire you or help if you can’t think of anything. They are by no means compulsory.

This week’s homework is Talk Time (with some recording) and is due in by Wednesday 22 June.

I can discuss health issues at my school.

I have worked with members of our Health Group (made up of our School Councillors) to create the homework for this week – a health questionnaire.

As part of the next level of our Healthy Schools status we are working on a number of targets relating to obesity and emotional health.

Your views and responses to the health questionnaire will help us to be an even happier and healthier school.

Please discuss the issues raised in the questionnaire at home and record your views on the questionnaire provided.  Return your completed forms to your class teacher.

We look forward to hearing your ideas and thoughts.
