The homework this week is creative and is due in on Wednesday 23 March.

I can subtract.

I would like you to show me what you have learnt about subtraction. Be as creative as you like, but ensure that you show off your subtraction skills.

We thought of a few ideas as a class:

  • Design a subtraction board game.
  • Make a poster explaining how to solve subtraction problems.
  • Show off your skills by solving some challenging subtraction problems.
  • Make a video explaining how to do a subtraction calculation using a strategy.

Have fun. I will look forward to a subtraction bonanza on Wednesday!

The homework this week is Talk timeand is due in Wednesday 23 March.

I can talk about why I should feel ‘good to be me’.

In keeping with this half-term’s SEAL theme of being ‘good to be me’, your child should discuss all the ways that they should feel good about themselves.

They should also talk about why their friends should feel good about themselves.

The homework this week is talk time and is due in Wednesday 23 March.

I can talk about what ‘Red Nose Day’ means to me.

Red Nose Day will impact on the children in many different ways, and this a brilliant opportunity to discuss your child’s thoughts and feelings about the world around them.

As this is talk time homework, I would like to remind you that it is not necessary for your child to come up with something creative and artistic. A few simple notes on the discussion you’ve had with your child will suffice.  However, it’s a good idea to think about some new wow words and openers that can be used in the talk time at home, at school and in the future eg

  • Although I liked it, …
  • My opinion is that …
  • I prefer …
  • Comic Relief can raise substantial amounts …
  • The money raised might considerably improve …

The homework this week is Creative and is due in Wednesday 16 March:

I can create something to help me remember how to tell the time.

I am really excited about seeing what you are going to come up with for this week’s homework, Year 2!

You have to create something (ideas below) that will help you remember the time. If you know the time to o’clock, then you could draw a clock with labels for half-past on? See if you can come up with something that is original, but also something that will help your learning.

Here are some ideas:

  • A poster which has a clock with all the labelled times on.
  • A flow diagram of how to work out the time.
  • A brainstorm of all the important vocabulary when telling the time.
  • A set of flash cards stuck to your book with quarter past, half past etc.

Please don’t feel you have to stick to these if you have something even more creative!

This week’s homework is talk time. It will be due in on Wednesday 16 March.

I think spending billions of pounds on space exploration is a waste of money. Do you agree?

Children can choose to agree or disagree with the statement – as long as they have reasons to back up their opinion.

Try to encourage the children to use words like:

  • However…
  • Although…
  • On the other hand…
  • I understand your point, but I think that…
  • Conversely…
  • Another reason is…
