Your homework this week is CREATIVE and is due in on Wednesday 9 February 2011.

I can invent and make a page of a study book to show people how to write a great set of instructions.

OR

I can invent a page of an important bits book to show people how to interpret pie charts.

Think of the following:

• How the page should look so it looks like a study book or important bits book.
• How you are going to make it creative and interesting to read.
• What information will you include to help your reader learn about instructions or pie charts?
• What tips will you give to your reader?
• If you’re producing information about instructions, don’t forget to mention key features: imperative verbs, connectives that help to give order, numbers, and handy hints.
• If you’re producing information about pie chats don’t forget to mention the learning steps children need to take: look at the number of sections, how many people in total, and fractions for each section.

This week’s homework is creative. It is due in on Wednesday 09 February.

I know properties of 2D and 3D shapes.

You could:

Find examples of 2D and / or 3D shapes around your house.

Produce a table of shapes and their properties.

Produce a spider diagram of shapes and their properties.

(2D shapes may have sides, vertices, angles and lines of symmetry.)

(3D shapes may have faces, edges and vertices.)

This week’s homework is talk time and is linked to the Change4Life Great Swapathon.

I can make a healthy swap.

If you bring a packed lunch to school you could use the Packed Lunch Guidance document to find a suitable swap.

Use your swapathon resources and / or the swapathon website for more personalised swaps.

Be prepared to share your swap with your class.

Are aliens real? Why?

Discuss with somebody at home whether you think aliens are real or not. You have to have reasons to back up what you think.

The homework this week is Creative and is due in Wednesday 26 January.

I can design a costume for a member of the circus.

The children have just learnt about materials so a discussion on what everything is made of will be productive.  Here are some suggestions but, as always, the more creative the better!

• A costume for a clown including separate designs for their hat and equipment.
• A costume for a ring master including their cape and top hat.
• You could design clothes for animals in your circus.

One way to make this homework excellent would be to include labels and descriptions of materials used.

Homework this week is Practice Makes Perfect.

In class, we have been learning how to use the ‘ea’ sound in words. The children have an activity to complete which involves trying to make words with this sound then to use the word in a sentence.

Homework is due in on Wednesday 26 January 2011.

I can invent and draw a creature that would live in an Arctic habitat.

Your drawing needs to be annotated with facts that you have discovered having studied the animal closely.

Think of the following:

• How the animal is adapted to arctic conditions (camouflage, fur , features, eyes, ears, feet, teeth, fat)
• What it eats
• How it gets food
• Where it lives
• Where it would be on a food chain
• If it is a predator or prey
