This week’s homework is creative. It is due in on Wednesday 01 December 2010.

‘I can find openings in stories.’

This links to our story-writing unit in literacy. The children need to find different opening lines (the first line) in stories and make a note of them. They could even sort them into dialogue (speech), action or description (think of ‘DAD‘. As it is a creative homework they may present their homework how they wish.

Your homework this week is Talk Time.

I can talk about our Assembly on Victorians.

Discuss and share ideas and thoughts about our assembly including your role as well as the roles of other people. Discuss what you enjoyed and what you hope people learnt from our assembly.

…or…

I can keep calm or help others to calm down.

Discuss and share the things we have talked about in school about keeping calm. Share strategies and try and find the best methods for keeping calm that you and your parents use.

Make notes in your homework book to show the things you discussed.

Homework is due on Wednesday 01 December.

This week’s homework is practice makes perfect and is due in on Wednesday 24 November.

The children have a worksheet with some clock faces on them. They have to look at the clock face and work out the time. The time should then be written in words, underneath the clock face.

Good luck.

The homework this week is Talk Time homework and is due in on Wednesday 24 October.

I can talk about toys from other countries.

  • What toys do children have in other countries?
  • Are any of them the same as the ones we have in England?
  • Which of our toys come from outside England? How do you know?
  • How much do toys cost in other countries?

Why not inspect your toy to see if you can find any clues?

The homework this week is ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ and is due in Wednesday 23 November.

I can add on a number line.

I would like Cubes to add along a number line with single digit numbers (e.g. 4 +3 = ?)

I would like Spheres to add along a number line with a two digit number and a single digit number (e.g. 23 + 5).

I would like Cylinders to add a single digit number onto a two digit number using an numberless number line. For example, in the sum 48 + 9 they should do as follows:

+2                    +7

——————————————-

48            50                          57

I would like Cones to add two digit numbers using the method above or this alternative: In the sum 23 + 35 they can:

+ 5            + 10                       +10                     +10

————————————————————————————-

23          28                  38                          48                        58

We don’t usually do ‘Practice Makes Perfect’ but I really feel the children would benefit from solving some subtraction calculations at home.

Your homework this week is creative and is due on Wednesday 24 November.

I can express my opinions about our Victorian Day.

We had lots of fun and interactive learning on Victorian Day. This creative homework is to explain all about the events and activities that the children experienced during the day.

This piece of work could be:

  • drawings
  • writing
  • a picture collage
  • an illustrated list

or

  • your own idea!

Have fun!

This week’s homework is creative and is due in on Wednesday 17 November.

I can design a bus or train that is good for the environment.

Ideas that we came up with as a class included:

  • Harnessing animal power to move the vehicle
  • Using manpower to move the vehicle in a Flintstones style pick-it-up-and-run-with-it way!
  • Using old vegetables as fuel
  • Making trains and buses at least double decker to maximise the number of passengers per journey

It is up to you how you present your ideas. You could draw and label the vehicle, explaining the special features. You could make a collage using different materials. You could make a prototype – which was an ambitious idea by one of our class members – and photograph this for your homework book!

(Don’t forget our rule: homework should ‘fit’ onto one side of the homework book, but could have flaps and accessories that extend this!)

Good luck! I will look forward to seeing what your creative minds come up with this week!

This week’s homework is practice makes perfect and is due in on Wednesday 17 November.

I can practise my letter formation for ‘a’ and ‘e’.

Remember, our Handwriting Guide is easy to follow and a great way to support your child. Children have told us that with better handwriting they feel more confident and proud of their learning!
