This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due in on Thursday 05 October:
I can revise place value.
Children been given a sheet of questions which revises learning which we’ve done in class over the last few weeks. If there are any questions, children should come and see us for help before the date it’s due in – we like helping!
We’re improving our 3 and 5 times tables this week.

For Creative homework this week, we’re all entering a competition.
Young Imagineers has just been launched by the Science Museum and Statoil, the Norwegian energy company, who this year are opening the world’s first floating offshore wind farm, located off the coast of Scotland.
Aimed at encouraging children’s involvement in the STEM subjects, the Young Imagineers competition asks children, aged 7-14, “What invention would you create to make tomorrow’s world a better place?” The winner will have their idea designed and displayed in the Science Museum!
Entries will uploaded online after they have been returned and looked at by the rest of the class on Thursday 05 October.

This week, our homework is Practice Makes Perfect: To be able to solve addition and subtraction calculations and problems.
Children have been given a sheet with some addition and subtraction calculations/problems. I’d like children to have a go at these calculations independently so we can go through them in our homework review and identify any misconceptions.
Homework is due on Friday 28 September.
Contact me with any questions.

This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due on Thursday 28 September.
I can solve addition and subtraction calculations and problems.
This follows on from the learning we have done in class this week. Children have been given practice which will reinforce their learning and provide some challenge.
If there are any questions children need help with, they need to ask for it before it is due in on the Thursday.

This week’s homework is Creative and is due on Thursday 21 September:
I can show what I have learnt after reading Orion and the Dark.
Children have been asked to demonstrate what they have learnt and enjoyed after reading our class novel. Some ideas we had in class were:
- Drawing the characters and writing descriptions
- Paper mâché or other material to make the characters
- Constellation art
- Story board/comic strip
- Feelings poster (A4) of how they changed for Orion throughout the story
- Play/presentation about the book
When completing this Creative homework, as per the name, be as creative as you like! Make sure you chat about ideas with your child: could the homework be in the form of a poster, a letter, a comic strip, some writing, a PowerPoint…? Could it use photos, drawings, fold out ‘extras’ on the page…?
We are practising the three times tables this week. This is a new times table for most, so this week, children should focus on becoming familiar with this. It may take some time to learn a new times table, but as long as the practice is little and often, they’re sure to get it in no time. Make sure to reiterate division facts, too.
For example, if we know 5 x 3 = 15, we should know 3 x 5 = 15, 15 ÷ 5 = 3 and 15 ÷ 3 = 5.

This week, children have been given a Talk Time homework:
I can prepare for a debate (Should something that is harmful be considered entertainment?)
Children should discuss this topic with someone at home and be ready to take part in a debate as part of our homework review next week.

The homework this week is talk time and is due in on Thursday 21 September.
I can take safe risks.
In class, we’re learning about the 8 Rs for Learning. This week, we’re looking at how we can take safe risks in and out of school. Chat to your children about what a safe risk could be and conversely what an unsafe risk is. For example, Amrit took a safe risk last weekend by performing with her dance group on stage in front of lots of people. In contrast, an unsafe risk may be cycling to school without a helmet on.

This week’s homework is Creative: I can show how to make my class a good place to learn.
This piece is due in on Thursday 14 September.
Children should respond in a creative manner and show how they can make our place a good place to learn. This could be done in many ways but here’s a few ideas we came up with as a class:
- create a poster of dos and don’ts
- create a mini version of the perfect classroom using a cardboard box
- create a video explaining what the perfect learner would look like
- create a video in which you play the ‘perfect’ learner
- make a puppet show using a cardboard box and string
If you have any problems, please see me at the earliest opportunity.

The first homework of Year 6 will be Creative and is due back on Thursday 14 September.
I can show how to use the 8Rs for learning in school or at home.
The 8Rs link to Living and Learning for this half term (formerly known as SEAL) and are a fantastic tool for encouraging the children to think about their learning behaviour effectively.
We’ve recapped all 8 this week but here’s a reminder for you at home: resilience, responsibility, reflectiveness, responsiveness, readiness, risk-taking, remembering, resourcefulness.
Here are a few ideas to get you going:
- Take photos which show you demonstrating the 8Rs at home.
- Create an 8Rs wheel with an example of how to show each one in class.
- Write a short story of a class who demonstrate all 8Rs well.
- Create scenarios for us to decide which R needs to be engaged.
