The homework this week is to plant and look after a tomato seed. You have all the things you need except the soil.
Make sure that you talk to your child about giving the plant all the things it needs to survive.

Observe carefully how the plant grows. You could take photos, sketches or write a short diary entry to record changes in the plant.

This week’s homework is practice makes perfect and is due in on Thursday 11 May:

I can recognise angles as a property of shape. 

Children have been given a worksheet to practise what they have been learning in maths lessons. Please note you do not need a protractor to complete the homework. You can use anything that has a right angle.

This week, children have two pieces of homework. Both should be completed by Thursday 11 May. They should also learn the 11x table and, more importantly by Year 5, the related key facts discussed during parents evening (eg if 5 x 11 = 55 then we know that 55 divided by 11 = 5. We also know that 50 x 11 = 550 because it is 10x bigger).

The first piece is Talk Time: I know when it’s appropriate to apologise and why it’s important to do so. 

Children should discuss this with an adult and be ready to share this with the class.

The second piece is Practice Makes Perfect: I can show what I know about 2D shapes. 

Children should complete the sheet they have been given which recaps learning from previous years. We will be building on, and consolidating, this learning next week in our maths lessons.

The homework this week is creative and is due in on Thursday 11 May.

I can identify the different types of trees around me. 

In this homework you have to become a tree detective. Use the ‘leaf key’ provided and other resources to find the names of the trees that are in your garden and local area. It would be great if you can bring in a leaf from each tree you identify. You could sketch or take photos of the different leaves or trees.

This Week’s homework is Creative and is due in Thursday 04 May:

I can show what I have learned during our ‘Forces and Magnets’ topic.

During our mini-topic on Forces and Magnets, Year 3 have learnt about:

  • Pushes and pulls
  • Friction
  • Magnetic materials
  • Magnet strength
  • Magnetic poles

Children can choose one or more of these ideas and show what they have learnt in a creative way. Maybe you could display your learning through an information poster, a diagram or a quiz.

Practice Makes Perfect

In the run-up to SATs, Year 6 have more personalised homework which allows them to practise specific skills they feel they need to improve on. Each child has a Maths and a Punctuation and Grammar homework which they have requested.

We’ll go through these in groups on Thursday 04 May and, if there are any things they’re finding particularly difficult, they need to bring it in before this date so we can look at it together.

The homework this week is practice makes perfect.

The children have a poem and some comprehension questions about the poem in their book. They should read the poem out loud to an adult and then answer the questions, using the poem to help them find the relevant information.

This week, children have two pieces of homework. Both pieces are due Thursday 04 May.

The first is Creative: I can prove that grammar is important. 

We focus on grammar and punctuation a lot in school but I would like children to prove that grammar is important in real life. After all, correct grammar/punctuation can be the difference between eating with your Grandma and eating your Grandma.

  • Let’s eat, Grandma.
  • Let’s eat Grandma.

The second piece is Talk Time: I can justify my own opinion (Should we spend so much money on exploring space?)

Last year, NASA’s budget was increased by $18.5 billion. This is obviously a substantial amount of money. Through discussions with an adult, I would like children to decide if they think that spending this much is acceptable. We’ll have a debate as part of our homework review next week.

This week’s homework is Talk Time.

I see things from other people’s point of view.

Children should talk about how it is important to put yourself in someone else’s shoes and understand how they feel in order to help them resolve their issues. We will have a class discussion on Thursday 30 March.

We are still concentrating on our 11 times table.

Also, we will be revisiting previous tables regularly.
