This week’s Talk Time homework is linked to a visitor we’ve got next week.
How do rollercoasters work?
Going to theme parks is also a great form of entertainment today so it links to our Time Travel – Entertainment topic. Many of us love them but why and how are they made? Discuss this as a family, with friends, over dinner or in the car and be ready to join in our class discussion on Thursday 09 March.

This week, Year 6 have a mini Maths test and a reading comprehension for their Practice Makes Perfect homework.
The children could complete it independently, with you or a bit of both by doing it themselves then going through it together. Make sure they make note of anything they’re struggling with as we’ll discuss this as a class in our homework review on Thursday 09 March.

The homework this week is creative and is due in on Thursday 09 March.
I know that houses in other countries may be different to our houses.
Think about your own experiences or ask friends or family who have been to or lived in other countries about the houses that people lived in.
How are they different to the houses we live in? How are they the same?
You could draw and label a picture of the houses, write an estate agent promotion for a house, create a model of the houses with labels.

This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect:
To learn your lines and songs for the school production.
It’s going to be a busy few weeks in Year 3 getting ready for the Year 3/4 production. Children should start to learn their lines now off by heart and learn all the songs, too. Thank you for all the support you have given to your children already. You can tell they’ve been practising and it’s going to be a great show!
03 March 2017
As usual, children have been given two pieces of homework to complete this week. Both pieces are due on Thursday 09 March 2017.
Talk Time: I can discuss how adults I know work cooperatively.
Working cooperatively with others is not only our SEAL sentence this week but it is also a crucial life skill. Children should discuss with an adult how working cooperatively looks in everyday life as an adult. A useful conversation to have would be to highlight how working cooperatively in the classroom is similar to working cooperatively in the workplace.
Practice Makes Perfect: I can show what I’ve learnt about decimals.
We’ve just finished learning on decimals so this is a chance for children to show how much they’ve learnt. They should complete the questions they have been given independently – only asking for help if it is needed. There are 10 marks available so children should aim to complete the questions in roughly 8 minutes.

This week’s Talk Time links to our SEAL statement for next week:
How can you help your group to work well together?
Discuss ideas over dinner, in the car, walking to school and make a couple of notes for our class discussion on Thursday 02 March.
24 February 2017
From now on, Year 6 will have Practice Makes Perfect homework each week in the lead up to SATs. The children have a ten minute SPaG test to have a go at. However, it doesn’t have to be completed in ten minutes and they can discuss it with you. We’ll then go through this in our homework review on Thursday 02 March.
They also have a Maths activity page which starts off with some arithmetic questions (which is the first Maths test they’ll do) before going on to more problem solving style questions. Again, we’ll go through this together in the homework review on Thursday 03 March.

This week’s homework is talk time and is due on Thursday 03 March:
I don’t interrupt with my mouth or my hands.
Our SEAL theme this half term is ‘Getting on’; it covers four main aspects:
- developing the social skills of friendship
- working well together in a group
- managing anger
- resolving conflict
Children can discuss why it is important to take it in turns to speak and to listen without interrupting.

This week, following our learning on 2D and 3D shapes, the homework is practice makes perfect.
This should be completed and returned to school by Thursday 02 March.
Here is some information that might help.
When we talk about 3D shapes, we talk about faces, edges and vertices.
- The faces are the flat parts of the shape.
- The edges are the lines where two faces meet.
- The vertices are the points where two or more edges meet.
For example, this cuboid has 6 faces, 12 edges and 8 vertices:

This week, as usual, we have two pieces of homework.
First, we have a Creative homework: I can show what entertainment means to me.
This really is an open-ended task. Children should think about what they do for entertainment and then present this in a creative fashion. They should focus on more than one type of entertainment. A good example would be a comparison between two different types of entertainment.
Second, we have a Practice Makes Perfect homework: I can correct spelling mistakes.
Children have been given a worksheet to complete. The worksheet requires them to spot a series of spelling mistakes and then correct them. If children are not sure of the correct spelling, they should find out. This could be done in many ways: dictionary, internet or simply by asking someone.
As always, if you have any difficulties please contact me early in the week.
