The homework this week is talk time and is due in on Thursday 13 October.
What is the value of art?
Art is valuable in lots of different ways. It can cheer us up if we’re feeling sad. It can entertain us or help us to see things in different ways.
Yet, art also has a monetary value. Some art is worth millions of pounds. Is this right? Is it easy to see which art is more valuable?
What art is valuable to you and to your family? Why is it valuable?

This week’s second homework is Creative and is due on Tuesday 11 October 2016.
To be able to present information about WW2.
Although this week’s homework is Creative, we’re doing it slightly differently. Last year, Year 5 and 6 completed an independent research project. Year 5 would like to have a go at something similar so next week will be a week of independent project work linked to our topic.
Next week, you’ll be creating something independently about one aspect of living on the home front: evacuation, the blitz, air raids, women at war, rationing or anything else that piques your interest. Year 5 always create amazing Creative homework so what you actually choose to create is up to you. Here are a few ideas from me:
- A magazine for a child living during the war
- A project board (like we produced last year)
- An information leaflet.
- A game we can play
So, decide what you want to create and what it will be about. (You’ll have three hours throughout the week to complete it – think about that when making your choice.) Your actual homework will be to gather the information you need in order to complete the work in class. Do not create your independent project!
So that we can complete this project work during class time, this homework will be due on Tuesday 11 October.

Although this week’s homework is Creative, we’re doing it slightly differently. Last year, the class really enjoyed the independent learning they did for our World History topic. The class would like to try something like this again so next week will be a week of independent project work linked to our topic.

This week’s second homework is Talk Time.
I can discuss ways to make a fresh start.
Children should discuss the idea of making a fresh start and suggest ways to make one. Children should write notes to remind themselves of the conversation when we discuss this in class. Also, the person they discuss this with at home should sign their homework book.

The homework this week is Talk Time and will be discussed on Thursday 06 October.
I understand how someone else feels.
For this homework, children should discuss this statement with others at home.
They should consider:
- What are the different emotions someone might feel? How many can you name? When/why might someone feel that way?
- How would you know how someone else is feeling? What does their face look like? What does their body look like?
- What could you do if you see someone showing certain emotions? For example, loneliness, anger, confusion or worry.
In our SEAL lesson this week, we considered how someone else might feel through the book, Beegu.
Children should be prepared to share their ideas.

For Mathletics homework, each child has been assigned two tasks from MULTIPLY AND DIVIDE WRITTEN.
- Everyone has been assigned ‘Short Division’.
- Some children have been assigned ‘Long Multiplication’.
- Some children have been assigned ‘Multiply 2-Digit Number regroup’.
This work will allow the children to practise skills we’ve been revising this week on multiplication and get a head start on division which we’ll be moving on to next week.
These task should be completed by Thursday 06 October. As always, let me know if there are any difficulties before Thursday and I’ll do what I can to help.
