We look forward to meeting you over the next few weeks but for now, here is some key information about Year 1.

Water bottles

These should be brought to school daily and they will be brought home every day for refreshing and cleaning.

Homework

Whole school homework is set every Friday (along with new spellings). This week your child has brought home a homework book and guide. This should be kept at home and it can be used for practising spellings. Homework and spellings can also be accessed from the website.

Lexia

In Year 1, the children can access a reading/phonics online learning resource called Lexia. The children brought their login information home this week stuck into their reading records. Lexia certificates will be awarded  if your child completes a level (by the end of Year 1, the children are aiming for achieving Level 5).

Numbots

We continue to use Numbots in Year 1 and certificates will be awarded for children who complete the different stages.

For Lexia and Numbots, little and often (10/15 minutes a day) is recommended.

Uniform

Please do check the uniform policy to ensure your child is wearing the correct items including for PE days. Hoodies should not be worn on PE days, just a normal school jumper. Earrings must be removed on PE days.

Finally, please do ask if there are any queries and keep checking back on class news to find out more about your child’s learning!

Well Done Year 5!

Posted on Friday 09 September 2022 by Miss Goswami

A HUGE Well done to Year 5 for powering through our first week at school. You have been resilient learners; working incredibly hard this week, even with the challenge of being in the hall. You should be especially proud!

Important information:

  • P.E. days are Monday and Wednesday (please come into school in your P.E kit on these days). Please check the uniform policy for appropriate PE kit.
  • Homework – every Friday your child will come home with homework, which will be reviewed the following Friday.
  • Spelling – your child will come home with a list of spellings from that week’s learning.
  • Reading – your child will come home with an activity to complete in their reading records.
  • Times Tables – your child will come home with a times tables target. Practise in short (but often) chunks of about 10-15 minutes per day.
  • Talk Time- your child will come home with a topic to discuss with you at home.
  • Bags- whilst we have limited space in the hall, please continue to not bring bags into school.

Keep up the great work Year 5!

The Great Fire of London Poem

Posted on Friday 09 September 2022 by Mrs Lake

This week, we have all enjoyed learning history through poetry. There are lots of facts about the Great Fire of London in this poem. Enjoy reading the poem together at home. You can discuss the key events, people and information in the poem. Can you spot the rhyming words too?

First week back!

Posted on Friday 09 September 2022 by Miss Birch

Hello everyone,

After our first week back at school, I just wanted to thank everyone (children and parents!) for being fantastic and making everything run so smoothly. We’ve had a lovely week getting to know each other and getting stuck into our new learning!

We’ve begun our History topic unit about Ancient Greece. The children have been fascinated by exploring Greece on Google Earth and finding out lots of facts about it. They found Greece’s hemisphere, continent and capital city.

We have also begun one of our class novels for this first half term – Greek Myths by Marcia Williams. The class were really knowledgeable about the Greek gods such as Zeus and Hermes.

Have a look at this website to learn more about Greek gods and myths:  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zv39bqt

Transition

Posted on Friday 09 September 2022 by Mrs Wood

This week, we welcomed our first group of Reception children. We’ve had a busy few days getting to know each other and the routines. They’ve settled really well and we’ve already started to see some amazing learning!

Every morning, we’ll encourage your child to be independent when doing their daily jobs. The jobs include: hanging up their coat, finding their name, choosing their lunch, and voting for a story.

Things to remember…

  • PE will be every Monday and Friday. Your child should come to school in their PE kit. Our first PE session will be on Monday 19 September. Click here if you’re unsure about any items of clothing or footwear.
  • Your child will need a labelled water bottle each day. Please ensure the bottle only contains water – no juice, please!
  • The school day is 8.50 am – 3.15 pm.
  • Please make sure all items of clothing are NAMED.

If you have any questions, please ask at the end of the day.

Zoom workshops
If you’re interested in attending any of these Zoom workshops, please either send us a message on the School Gateway app or email the school office. We’ll then email the Zoom joining details out to all those who have expressed an interest.

Reminder!

Phonics and early reading Zoom session on Monday 12 September.

We look forward to welcoming group 2 and 3 children next week!

Welcome Back!

Posted on Thursday 08 September 2022 by Mr Wain

Hi everyone!

Welcome back! We’ve had a happy and healthy start to life in Y6 and Mrs Russell and I are proud of how everybody has coped not yet being in the classroom.

Here’s some important info about this year:

  • P.E. days are Mondays and Fridays (come to school in your P.E. kit on these days)
  • Please come to school in the correct P.E. kit and correct uniform on non P.E. days – see our policy here if you’re unsure!
  • Homework – every Friday your child will come home with a ‘Talk Time’ homework. This will be reviewed the following Friday.
  • Spelling – every Friday your child will come home with a list of spellings from that week’s learning. These will be tested the following Friday.
  • Reading – every Friday your child will come home with an activity to complete in their reading records. Sign underneath and leave a comment or question about your child’s reading! These will be reviewed in our Book Club session the following Friday. Reading every day is super important! This could be a book, magazine, recipe book, a synopsis on the TV guide… anything! Top tip: put the subtitles on while watching TV!
  • Times Tables – every Friday your child will come home with a times tables target. Practise in short (but often) chunks of about 10-15 minutes per day! This could be on TTRS or your own method! These will be tested every Friday. Be prepared for related facts, too! E.g. if 4×6=24 then 40×6=240. Some weeks, we’ll have a TTRS battle against other classes so look out for these!

If you’ve any questions, comments or concerns, then please find me for a chat after school!

Keep up with the hard work Y6!
