Curriculum Morning – Tuesday 30 November
There will be a short meeting at 9 o’clock on Tuesday morning for those parents who were unable to attend the evening meeting. The meeting will give you the chance to find out how we teach reading and writing in Reception and give you ideas for helping your child at home. We hope you will be able to attend.
Helping each other to learn in Reception
This week the children have been helping each other learn. Will we be out of a job soon?
- A phonics lesson
Who will help me make the bread?
In the story of “The Little Red Hen”, nobody would help her make the bread. She did it all by herself. When we made some bread in Year 1, we worked together as a team and look at the fabulous bread we made.

Class Assembly
Our first Class Assembly was on Thursday 25 November.
Well done children! You performed with confidence and enthusiasm and gave the rest of the pupils a hugely interesting show jam-packed with examples of your great learning about Vile Victorians.
You should be very proud of yourselves!
Well done again.
Mrs Hazell.
Moortown Puppeteers
As well as being fantastic playground designers, Year 1 have proved that they are also very creative when it comes to puppets. All they were given was a wooden spoon and some material and they came up with some really different ideas. We were joined by wizards, a werewolf, Harry Potter and many more characters. As you may have noticed, these additions have been brought home as the children were so proud of them. We hope that you continue to enjoy many puppet shows!!

Victorian Day
Helping your child at home
Thank you to everyone who came to the curriculum meeting yesterday. If you could not make it please let us know as we will be arranging a morning session very soon for those parents who wish to attend.
For information on how we teach maths using Numicon there is a useful parent’s page on their website.
For more information on the correct pronunciation of phonemes this website is very useful.
New Literacy Module: Traditional Stories
For the rest of the term, Year 2 will be plunged into a world of dragons, princesses and wizards. How much does your child already know about fairy tales and traditional stories? See what stories or characters they can take away from this picture below.
This would be a great time to introduce (or re-visit) stories at home like ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’, ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ etc. How well can your child describe the main character and how well can they describe the villain?
Supporting your child’s learning
Don’t forget the Curriculum Evening this Wednesday at 6.30pm!
For ideas for helping your child at home, download some useful leaflets from Early Education entitled ‘Maths is everywhere’ and ‘The road to reading’.
The children takeover!
On Friday, the children in Reception took over ‘Show and Tell’ and did such a fantastic job that we may let them do it every week!
