This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due on Thursday 12 September.
I can read Roman numerals (up to 100).
The children have written the key facts for Roman numerals in their homework books and should practise this skill for their homework. Some children have chosen to take a worksheet to practise on. Some haven’t taken a worksheet as they’ve really enjoyed this learning and so can try and be creative in their practice.
Here’s what we learnt to do and a few suggestions of what their practice could look like:
We know how to:
- Write numbers up to 100 as Roman numerals.
For example, 37 = XXXVII, 54 = LIV, 42 = XLII, 91 = XCI
- Write Roman numerals up to 100 as numbers.
For example, XXVII = 27, XLI = 41, LXXXI = 81
- Solve calculations represented as Roman numerals.
For example, XVII + LXI = 78 (LXXVIII)
Your child could:
- Complete the worksheet from school.
- Write the ages of everyone in their family in Roman numerals.
- Convert these Roman numerals into numbers: LXII, XXXVIII, XLV, LXXIII, XCV, XXIV, LIX
- Create calculations written as Roman numerals (with the answers worked out).
- Write some information about themselves but with any numbers written as Roman numerals.

The homework this week is Practice Makes Perfect and due in Thursday 12 September.
I can write sentences.
As we begin our learning in Year 2, we’d like to know what the children want to learn during this year and what their interests are outside of school. Their responses should be in full sentences.
Here are some reminders of what to check for when writing each sentence.
- Capital letter at the start
- Full stop at the end
- Finger spaces
- Does it make sense?
Our handwriting guide shows the correct letter formation to support this writing. Please ask if you would like a printed copy of this guide.

This week’s homework is Talk Time and is due in on Thursday 12 September.
I can talk about my goals for the year.
Children have been asked to discuss their targets for the coming year. This could be something to improve in school or out of school and may relate to their handwriting, spelling, times tables or even joining in with sporting competitions. It might be best to talk about how to improve and not just what!
We will talk about their targets as a class and share our aspirations.

The homework this week is creative and is due in next Thursday.
I can write about what I was learning in these photos.
Children could choose one of the photos, or all of them, to write about what they were learning. Alternatively, they could write a text related to the learning. For example, a recipe for their bagel bruschettas, instructions for creating a magic square, a retelling of the Secret Garden story.

This week, the whole school has the same Creative homework: I can write about what I was learning in these photos.
The homework is due on Thursday 18 July.

Please make notes and be ready to share what you talked about at home on Tuesday 16 July 2019.

This week, and the final submission for Y5, the homework is Creative:
I can show my highlights of the year.
Children are invited to reflect on their ‘best bits’ of Year 5 and show them in a creative way. Some ideas for their favourite moment are:
- a song/poem/rap
- a comic strip
- a poster
- a model
- awards for the class
- a video clip
It could be one event or a few that have stood out but, either way, we will celebrate our brilliant year (and the fact we get another one together) on Thursday 18 July.

This week, the whole school has the same Creative homework: I can illustrate happy and healthy choices.
This homework links to our weekly living and learning statement and is something we talk about a lot in our school. Can you encourage your child to make a new healthy choice every day this week? Or think about one new healthy change your child can make? Try to help them make sure the choice is a realistic, achievable one, such as avoiding being on an electronic device after a certain time to help sleep, or adding one extra daily portion of vegetables to their diet each day.
As this is a Creative homework, children could respond in a variety of ways:
• Create a blog, video blog or diary to show the changes we’ve made.
• Create a poster convincing others to make a happy and healthy change.
• Make a cartoon strip in which a character makes a happy and healthy change.
• Write a song, poem or rap that will encourage others to make changes.
• Reflect on change they’ve made and how it made them feel.
There are of course lots of other ways to respond, too.
Children should be ready share, and celebrate, their homework in their class by Thursday 11 July 2019.

The homework this week is Practice Makes Perfect.
I can tell the time to the hour and half past.
This week, we’ve been learning about time in Year One. The children have been telling the time to hour and half past and have got a sheet in their book to practice this even more.
The homework is due on Thursday 4 July.

The homework this week is Practice Makes Perfect.
I know how to measure. We’ve been learning about measures in maths lessons recently. The children have a worksheet to complete in their books. For each problem, they need to choose the appropriate unit of measure. |
