Homework

This week’s homework is Talk Time and will be discussed in class on Thursday 16 May.

If you were given the opportunity to go to space, where would you go, what would you do and who would you take?

In Year 5, we’ve been learning all about space. Which planet do you have your eye on or are stars more your thing? Would you go in the name of science or a relaxing holiday? Would you even be brave enough to go at all? Have a chat with the people at home and find out their answers, too!

This week the homework is Talk Time:

We get many objects from plants and trees such as paper, medicine and sponges.

Is it right to destroy forests to make things that benefit humans?

Children should be prepared to discuss what they’ve talked about at home during our homework review next week. This homework should be completed by Thursday 9 May.

This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due in on Friday 10 May.

I can find fractions of amounts.

This is a recap of some maths learning we’ve done recently. For example:

“What is 2/3 of 12?

I know 1/3 of 12 is 4 so 2/3 must be 8.”

Children must read the real life situation and work out the answer. If you need any help, as always, come in and see me before the due date.

This week, homework is Talk Time and links with our Living and Learning statement for the week: I recognise mental health.

I can discuss if physical health is more important than mental health.

Children should discuss this at home and make notes on their thoughts  ready to share with the class on Thursday 10 May 2019.

This week, the whole school has the same Creative homework: I can illustrate different emotions.

This homework, which links to our living and learning statement, is an opportunity for children to show that they can recognise, and show, different emotions. As humans, we display a huge-range of emotions. Sometimes, it’s obvious how we’re feeling. Sometimes, it’s trickier for us to show, or recognise, an emotion. This statement allows us to spend time thinking about the different emotions we experience and how we can recognise these accurately in ourselves and others.

Children could respond creatively to this in a range of ways:

  • create a piece of art that shows a range of emotions
  • take pictures of themselves (or others) displaying different emotions
  • write a short-story in which a character shows lots of emotions
  • Devise a poem, song or rap about emotions
  • Create a comic strip to illustrate different emotions

Of course, there are many other ways in which children could respond. Children should be ready to celebrate their learning as part of their homework review by Friday 03 May 2019.

The homework this week is creative.

All about teeth

Year 4 have started a mini-topic all about teeth. The children can use this week’s homework to showcase what they already know, what they have learnt or what they would like to know in relation to teeth.

Homework is due back on Thursday 25 April.

The homework this week is creative.

I can identify some of the trees in my locality.

Children should explore their locality: garden, street, local park to find some different trees. In their homework books, they have a key with images of some of the most common British trees, their leaves and their seeds. They should use this to help them to identify the trees. You might find some trees which aren’t on the key. Try to identify them using books or the internet.

The homework this week is talk time.

I can recognise positive and negative emotions in myself and others and I can respond appropriately.

This homework links with our Living and Learning statement for next week. Please talk with your child about the statement, recognising their strengths and areas to develop. You could also discuss strategies they could use to help them deal with emotions they or others are experiencing.

Homework this week is Talk Time.

Talk Time: I can discuss my alternative ending to Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum!

In Writing next week we will be writing our alternative endings to Year 3 &4’s production Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum!

Today the children got into groups and had a chance to discuss and act out their alternative endings to the story from the point where Jack climbs the beanstalk.

We had a list of questions to prompt our ideas, including:

  • What’s at the top of the beanstalk?
  • Who lives there?
  • What are they like? What is their personality like?
  • What 3 things does Jack take from the place in the clouds?
  • Does Jack descend the beanstalk?
  • Do these things bring Jack and his Mother’s farm fortune? Do they get Daisy back?
  • What does the future for Jack look like?

Get ready to share your ideas in Writing on Tuesday 23 April 2019.

This week, the whole school has the same Talk Time homework: I can pay and receive compliments to/from people outside of school.

This homework, which links to our living and learning statement, is an opportunity for children to discuss the benefits of paying compliments to people. Here are some questions that might shape your discussion:

  • How does paying a compliment make you feel?
  • How does receiving a compliment make you feel?
  • Why is it important to be sensible when paying or receiving compliments?
  • Can you compliment people too much?

Children should be ready to discuss what they’ve talked about at home by Thursday 28 March 2019. It would be even better if children were able to talk confidently about times when they have given, or received, a compliment.
