The homework this week is creative and links to our very arty class novel topic.
I can create a piece of art that reflects a feeling or mood.
You could do some sketching or a painting. You could create a piece of digital art or even a sculpture. When thinking about the feeling or mood, consider the colours that you use and the the type of marks that you make.

This week’s homework is Creative and will be discussed in class on Friday 15 March: I can say something good about myself.
This week in Living and Learning, we’ve been saying things that are good about ourselves. We have been sharing these in class and have talked about being confident when doing this. Have a discussion with your child about what they think is good about themselves. Then, show it in a creative way! Here are some ideas:
- a diagram
- a poster
- a video
- draw a picture
- write a poem
Get ready to share this on Friday 15 March 2019.

This week, our whole school homework is Creative: I can present a summary of our class novel so far.
Every class in our school is currently enjoying their class novel topic. As such, we’ve read quite a bit of our books. This week, children should summarise what they’ve read so far. A good summary would give an overview of what’s happened, focussing on key events and characters. There are many ways in which children could choose to respond to this but here’s a few ideas…
- use an app to create a movie trailer for what’s happened so far
- create a timeline of key events
- turn what’s happened so far into a short comic
- write a song, rap or poem about one of the main characters/events
- create an image about a key event
- draw a portrait of a main character and label their characteristics
However children decide to respond, their efforts will be celebrated as part of our weekly homework review in class. This homework is due by Thursday 07 March 2019.
Friday 08 February 2019
This week, the whole school has the same creative homework which is due in on Thursday 14 February 2019.
I can show different ways to stay safe.
This week, we have enjoyed a staying safe themed week. We’ve had lots of visitors and covered a range of important safety-related topics. There are many ways, and many different situations, in which we need to keep safe: at home, at school, in our environment and online.
Children should think about the situations where they need to keep safe and who might help them to stay safe. This could be done in any creative way:
- a story
- a poem
- instructions
- a comic strip
- an advert
- an interview
- a game
- scenarios
…or any other creative ideas!
The homework will be reviewed as part of the themed week learning.

This week’s homework is Practise Makes Perfect: I know my lines for our song, ready for class assembly. We ask that the class have rehearsed, and learnt the words to, Abba’s Mamma Mia by Wednesday 13 February 2019. This is the day of the Year 3 class assembly.
The children have been performing this song on Mondays, as part of a series of Music lessons, so they are already relatively familiar with the song. Everyone has been sent home with a copy of the lyrics, however the lyrics can still be found online here. For a video with lyrics to sing along to, and to get some help with the beat and rhythm, please click here.

The homework this week is talk time.
I can give my opinion on a piece of art.
We’ve been looking at some well-known pieces of art in lessons this week. For this homework, the children have four pictures of art in their books. They should talk about the pieces of art. Discuss what they like and dislike about the pieces. Please don’t just limit the discussion to the four pieces in the homework book. Talk about any artwork! It could be something that is in your house. It could be a sculpture that often walk past in town. It could be a favourite from a gallery visit or a favourite piece that someone in your family has created.

This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and will be marked on Friday 8 February.
I can find a percentage of an amount.
There are lots of practice questions to do at home to make sure we’re really confident with this skill. Make sure the children are being careful to include the units on their answers and, for the last column of questions, it’ll be easier if they convert the measures before calculating the percentage. For example, 5 hours becomes 300 minutes.

This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and will be marked on Thursday 07 February.
I can divide four digit numbers by one digit numbers.
Children have been learning various methods for division including using place value counters, drawing place value grids and the bus stop method. Some of their calculations might have a remainder and some might not.
As always, if you need any help, please come in and see me before the due date.
