The homework this week is creative.

I can identify some of the trees in my locality.

Children should explore their locality: garden, street, local park to find some different trees. In their homework books, they have a key with images of some of the most common British trees, their leaves and their seeds. They should use this to help them to identify the trees. You might find some trees which aren’t on the key. Try to identify them using books or the internet.

The homework this week is talk time.

I can recognise positive and negative emotions in myself and others and I can respond appropriately.

This homework links with our Living and Learning statement for next week. Please talk with your child about the statement, recognising their strengths and areas to develop. You could also discuss strategies they could use to help them deal with emotions they or others are experiencing.

Homework this week is Talk Time.

Talk Time: I can discuss my alternative ending to Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum!

In Writing next week we will be writing our alternative endings to Year 3 &4’s production Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum!

Today the children got into groups and had a chance to discuss and act out their alternative endings to the story from the point where Jack climbs the beanstalk.

We had a list of questions to prompt our ideas, including:

  • What’s at the top of the beanstalk?
  • Who lives there?
  • What are they like? What is their personality like?
  • What 3 things does Jack take from the place in the clouds?
  • Does Jack descend the beanstalk?
  • Do these things bring Jack and his Mother’s farm fortune? Do they get Daisy back?
  • What does the future for Jack look like?

Get ready to share your ideas in Writing on Tuesday 23 April 2019.

This week, the whole school has the same Talk Time homework: I can pay and receive compliments to/from people outside of school.

This homework, which links to our living and learning statement, is an opportunity for children to discuss the benefits of paying compliments to people. Here are some questions that might shape your discussion:

  • How does paying a compliment make you feel?
  • How does receiving a compliment make you feel?
  • Why is it important to be sensible when paying or receiving compliments?
  • Can you compliment people too much?

Children should be ready to discuss what they’ve talked about at home by Thursday 28 March 2019. It would be even better if children were able to talk confidently about times when they have given, or received, a compliment.

This week, homework for Year 3 and Year 4 is Talk Time and is linked to the upcoming production: Fe Fi Fo Fum!

I know my lines, lyrics to the songs, and where I need to be for the Easter production.

As next week is the last week of rehearsals, we expect each child to have learnt their lines, words to the songs and where they need to be. Any extra practice you can get in at home will greatly support your child. Please ask your class teacher if you have lost your script so we can get you a new one to support this learning at home.

Our homework this week is Creative: I can show my talents.

All of the children in our school are blessed with an array of talents. This week, our homework, which links to our Living and Learning statement (I can recognise my talents), gives our children the opportunity to celebrate and share their talents. Children should respond creatively and be ready to show off their talents to their peers as part of their homework review. They could do this in a range of ways:

  • create a short performance to show to the class
  • film themselves showing off their talent
  • make a collage of their many talents
  • produce a piece of art to show off their talents

There are, of course, many other ways that children could respond. Children should be ready to show off their talents by Thursday 21 March 2019.

This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due on Thursday 14 March.

I can order numbers to 50.

This week, Year 1 have been comparing and ordering numbers to 50. They have brought home a sheet that requires them to order numbers within 50 from largest to smallest then from smallest to largest. The children should be able to complete this homework independently. We’ll go through the answers.

The homework this week is creative and links to our very arty class novel topic.

I can create a piece of art that reflects a feeling or mood.

You could do some sketching or a painting. You could create a piece of digital art or even a sculpture. When thinking about the feeling or mood, consider the colours that you use and the the type of marks that you make.

This week’s homework is Creative and will be discussed in class on Friday 15 March: I can say something good about myself.

This week in Living and Learning, we’ve been saying things that are good about ourselves. We have been sharing these in class and have talked about being confident when doing this. Have a discussion with your child about what they think is good about themselves. Then, show it in a creative way! Here are some ideas:

  • a diagram
  • a poster
  • a video
  • draw a picture
  • write a poem

Get ready to share this on Friday 15 March 2019.

This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and is due on Thursday 14 March.

I can calculate confidently with fractions.

Year 6 are becoming extremely confident with their arithmetic skills. They have brought some fraction calculations home to solve independently. We’ll go through the answers and any that children may have found difficult in class.
