This week’s homework is Talk Time:
I can discuss different ways of working out a calculation.
Children have been given a Year 5: Random Tables test. The point, however, isn’t to complete the test (but you can if you’d like). Children should discuss different ways to solve a calculation – the more the better! For example:
9 x 4 could be thought of as:
- 9 doubled and doubled again
- 10 lots of 4 with one group of 4 taken away
- 9 + 9 + 9 + 9
- 9 lots of 4
We’ll discuss our findings in class on Thursday 13 September.

This week’s homework is Talk Time and is due in on Thursday 13 September:
I know my address.
Our current geography-themed mini topic is Where in the World and we’d like the children to know what their address is to build up their knowledge of where they live in the world.
In our homework review on Thursday, we’ll discuss when we might need to use our address but also, from a safety point of view, when we shouldn’t give out this personal information.

This homework links well with our geography topic, Where in the World?

This week’s homework is Creative and is due in on Thursday 13 September.
How can we make our class a good place to learn?
We’ve had a really positive start to the term in Year 6 and long may that continue. Have a discussion at home about how we can all make sure our class stays a good place to learn.
- You could create a list of rules we can all follow.
- You could write a poem, making suggestions for how to work positively.
- You could write a diary entry from a child who learns in the perfect classroom.
- You could label a classroom with suggestions for how to make it a good place to learn.
- You could write a profile of the ideal class member.

This week’s whole homework involves completing the pupil health questionnaire sent home with your child/children.
I can share my views about health.
Pupil voice is an important part of our school and this annual questionnaire provides pupil views on some of our key health issues.
Please support your child to complete the health questionnaire by discussing these issues.
Please note the questionnaire should be returned to your class teacher by Wednesday 18 July.

This week’s homework is Creative and is due on Thursday 19 July.
I can show my highlights from Year 3.
This is the very last homework of the year. Have a look back at class news and discuss with your child what has been their highlight and show it in a creative way.
You might:
- write a story, song, rap or poem about the year
- draw a picture or comic book strip of your favourite learning
- recreate something we’ve done at home
- create awards or certificates for the class
- create a play to replicate your favourite memories

This week, our whole school homework is creative and should be returned to class by Thursday 12 July.
I can make healthy choices.
This is the chance for children to reflect on our Being Healthy themed week and consider what healthy choices they should make and encourage others to make.
This could be presented in any creative way:
- a game
- a poem
- a song
- a quiz
- a letter
- a comic strip
- a script
- a diary entry from the week
29 June 2018
As part of our Being Healthy themed week, the homework this week is to complete a health diary. The completed diary should be brought back to school on Thursday 05 July to ensure all the entries are made.
The diary covers diet, sleep and physical activity.
Once completed, you should reflect on your diary:
- what surprised you about your diary?
- what were you proud of?
- what could you improve?
- did you make any improvements throughout the week?
- did you manage to achieve your five a day?
- did you have five different portions of fruit and vegetables?
- did you try to reduce your number of snacks and sweetened drinks?
- did you find any alternative healthier snacks and drinks?
Physical activity guidelines state that children should do at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day (30 minutes at school and 30 minutes outside of school). Is this something you have achieved?
Sleep guidelines state how much sleep children should have at different ages. For example, a seven year old should have 10 hours 30 minutes sleep. Sleep is especially important for children as it directly impacts mental and physical development.
We look forward to reviewing the diaries next Thursday in our homework review.

This week’s homework is Practice Makes Perfect and doesn’t really have a specific due date.
Know your lines, what you’re doing and the songs for Bugsy Malone.
We’re fast approaching performance dates for our production, Bugsy Malone. Rehearsals are going well but to improve further we need everybody to know their lines, if they have them; to know when to come on and off; and to know all of the lyrics to the songs.
Here are some links to the songs online so make sure you get them playing and learn the lines, particularly of the ones that are trickier to remember. See whether your child can show you the actions that go with them too.

The homework this week is practice makes perfect.
I can write and present a shape poem.
In English lessons this week, we’ve written shape poems. For this homework, children should write and present their own poem. Here are some examples of shape poems:
