This week the homework is Creative.

I know traditional tales.

To tie in with learning we’ve been doing in English, this homework asks children to show that they know different traditional tales.

This week’s homework is Talk Time and will be discussed on Thursday 14 June.

I can talk about my learning.

Below are some images taken of the learning we have been part of this week. Look at the photos together and ask your child to tell you about their learning. There are lots of things they could tell you or that you could ask:

  • Did you enjoy that learning?
  • Do you thinking you improved on any skills in that lesson?
  • If you could do that lesson again, what would you do differently/the same?
  • What was the purpose of that learning?
  • What was your favourite learning from this week?

For Talk Time homework, the children should make a few brief notes on the the conversations they’ve had to help them in our class discussion.

This week’s homework is Talk Time:

I see things from other people’s point of view.

This is an important skill that enables us to get along happily with each other. Discuss at home why it is so important and the different times when seeing something from someone else’s perspective may be required.

This week, our homework is Creative: I can show what I know about angles.

In maths this week we’ve started our new geometry topic. So far we’ve focused on angles: what they are, how we use a protractor, how we know if it is acute, obtuse, reflex or a right angle and lots of estimating. This homework will allow children to consolidate this learning.

We discussed lots of ways in which children might respond to this. Here are a few examples…

  • find angles around your house, take pictures of them and estimate their size
  • create a poster which could help someone use a protractor
  • film yourself measuring angles
  • go out and about, creating a Vlog of all the angles you can spot

Of course there are many ways in which you might respond to this. Please remember that it is a creative homework and children should be spending about 30 minutes on completing it.

Our whole school homework this week is creative and should be returned to class by Thursday 24 May.

I am aware of my route to school.

Next week is Walk to School week.  To promote this and to encourage families to leave the car at home and explore their local area on foot, we are looking to produce a new, fun and exciting map of the routes our children take to school.  This will be produced in association with Dom Jacques, a parent who is a keen supporter of active travel, and Living Streets.
We hope the end product will be an official map available on our website – a great resource to inspire more families to use active travel for their everyday journeys to school and for children to increase awareness of their surroundings.  Over time, new features can be added such as the new local park.
At this initial stage, we would like children to look out for/draw/photograph some of the following features from their route to school to contribute to this map.
  • Points of interest – houses, buildings, gardens, street furniture, historical landmarks, street names and local amenities such as your favourite shops, doctors and cafes.
  • Nature – what trees, flowers, animals or birds do you see?
  • Points of improvement – spot things that make the walk unpleasant.  This may include obstacles on the routes (pavements blocked with cars & bins), litter (where are the bins and whether littering is a problem) and difficult crossings (is there anywhere where it feels unsafe to cross?).
  • Potential new features – what would you like to see on your route?

Children are invited, but not required, to use the initial version of the map below and add details of any of the above features in a creative way.

This weeks homework is again, Practice Makes Perfect. The homework is consolidating learning we’ve been doing in maths on halving. The worksheet requires you to add amounts of money and half it.

The homework is due on Thursday 17 May.

This week’s homework is Talk Time:

What calming down strategies can you use?

This week’s Living and Learning theme is all about understanding techniques that can help us calm down. Have a chat at home about different strategies you could use for different emotions and situations and be ready to discuss these in class on Thursday 17 May.

The homework this week is talk time and is due in by Thursday 17 May.

I know different strategies which help me or other people to calm down.

Talk to people at home about the strategies that you and they find useful and the warning signs which tell you that you are not feeling calm.

This week there’ll be no homework or spellings for Year 6. We’ve worked really hard this week and are all ready to face next week confidently and with a smile. By not giving any homework, it allows the children to take ownership of their own learning and, if they want to do anything over the weekend to prepare themselves, they can choose what that may be. Feel free to use a page of the Homework Book to do some practice.

You could:

  • Try some arithmetic calculations
  • Be tested on spellings from the Year 3/4 and 5/6 list
  • Write some sentences and see which words you can label with their word class
  • Think about the different areas of Maths and what you need to know for each of them

We’re all ready so I look forward to seeing 29 smiling faces at breakfast club on Monday morning (8.30 sharp).

This week our homework is TalkTime: What small changes could we make to be healthier?

At home, children should discuss what small changes we can make to be a little bit healthier. These could be things like taking the stairs instead of the escalator, drinking more water or trying to drink less fizzy drinks.

This links to our writing in which we’re trying to persuade people to drink/eat less sugar.

Children should be ready to discuss this in class on Thursday 17 May 2018.
