What calming down strategies can you use?
This week’s Living and Learning theme is all about understanding techniques that can help us calm down. Have a chat at home about different strategies you could use for different emotions and situations and be ready to discuss these in class on Thursday 17 May.

The homework this week is talk time and is due in by Thursday 17 May.
I know different strategies which help me or other people to calm down.
Talk to people at home about the strategies that you and they find useful and the warning signs which tell you that you are not feeling calm.

This week there’ll be no homework or spellings for Year 6. We’ve worked really hard this week and are all ready to face next week confidently and with a smile. By not giving any homework, it allows the children to take ownership of their own learning and, if they want to do anything over the weekend to prepare themselves, they can choose what that may be. Feel free to use a page of the Homework Book to do some practice.
You could:
- Try some arithmetic calculations
- Be tested on spellings from the Year 3/4 and 5/6 list
- Write some sentences and see which words you can label with their word class
- Think about the different areas of Maths and what you need to know for each of them
We’re all ready so I look forward to seeing 29 smiling faces at breakfast club on Monday morning (8.30 sharp).

This week our homework is TalkTime: What small changes could we make to be healthier?
At home, children should discuss what small changes we can make to be a little bit healthier. These could be things like taking the stairs instead of the escalator, drinking more water or trying to drink less fizzy drinks.
This links to our writing in which we’re trying to persuade people to drink/eat less sugar.
Children should be ready to discuss this in class on Thursday 17 May 2018.

The homework this week is creative.
Who is your hero?
In class, we’ve learnt about some inspirational people who are or were heroes. In this homework, we’d like you to tell us about someone who is a hero to you. It could be a member of your family, a friend, someone locally, nationally or internationally.

This weeks homework is Practice Makes Perfect, consolidating learning we’ve been doing in maths on sharing. The worksheet requires you to share the objects out equally into a certain number of groups.

As we’re coming to the end of our unit of fractions, I would like children to demonstrate what they have learnt in a creative way. This could be done with some artwork, creative writing or even something like cooking! This homework is due in on Thursday 10 May.

This week’s homework is Creative and is due in on Thursday 10th May.
I can show what I know about 2D shapes.
In class, the children have studied lots of 2D shapes and their properties. We have also learnt about symmetry and rotation. There are so many ways in which the children can show us how much they have learnt in a creative way.

This week, our homework is Creative:
I can show who inspires me.
This week, we’ve focussed on the verb ‘to inspire‘. Because of this, we’ve read about, and discussed, some famous people who have inspired others. I’d like you to share with the class who inspires you.
We have discussed this in class and children came up with the following ideas:
- you could print a picture of the person and explain what they do to inspire
- you could film yourself imitating that person
- you could make a poster about your idol
- you could bring in something that reminds you of that person
- you could use a shoe box to recreate a situation where that person is doing what inspires you
- you could make a model of your inspiration
- you could create a fact book about that person
and, obviously, there are many more ideas, too!
Homework should be returned on Friday 04 May 2018.
