20 April 2018
The homework this week is creative and is due in on Thursday 26 April.
I can show what I know about measures.
In maths lessons, we’re beginning to learn about measurement: length/height/distance, weight/mass, capacity/volume and temperature.
In this homework, children can show us what they know about one of or some of these types of measurement. You could…
- show off your measuring skills when cooking
- investigate the capacity of different containers around the house
- compare the height of different members of the family
- investigate the differences in temperature across a number of days or across a number of places
- or anything else to do with measurements!

This week the homework is creative and is due Thursday 29 March:
I can recognise my talents.
As we’re coming to the end of our Being Me half term topic, it’s important to recognise why it’s good to be us! We want children in Year 3 to recognise that everyone is good at something and it could be anything! This homework is a great opportunity to show your talents in a creative way.
We had some ideas in class for how to show this week’s homework. You could:
- draw a poster
- design a piece of art
- film your talent
- create a song/poem/rap
- make a presentation
- write a story about your talent
- use a computer to help
Have fun!

This week the homework is creative and is due Thursday 29 March:
I can recognise my talents.
It’s important to recognise that we’re all good at something and this homework is a great opportunity for your child to show their friends, teachers and peers what they are talented at in a creative way. We’ll be celebrating these talents in our Living and Learning lessons.
This homework could be presented in different ways:
- a poem
- a video of their talent
- a piece of art
- a song
- a poster
Any other creative way, that shows and recognises their talent, could be chosen.

This week’s homework is Creative and is due on Thursday 29 March.
Suggest a mini topic we should learn about in the summer term.
A mini topic lasts for two weeks but can be about anything at all. Topic learning should be interesting and fun but the best suggestions will also think about the learning that will take place throughout the two weeks. How will Maths and English fit in? What might circle time be about that week? Could PE link to it in any way? The best suggestions would also be realistic and take into consideration that there’ll only be two weeks of learning.
As a class, we’ll choose the best suggestion and take on this topic in June/July. It’s important to think about it now as we always plan a whole term of learning before it begins.

Our homework this week is Creative: I can recognise my talents.
All of the children in Year 5 are blessed with an array of talents. This week, we’ll celebrate this as part of our Living and Learning lessons! I’d like children to respond creatively and be ready to show off their talents to their peers. They could do this in a range of ways:
- create a short performance to show to to the class
- film themselves showing off their talent
- make a collage of their many talents
- produce a piece of art to show off their talents
There are, of course, many other ways that children could respond. We’ll review our homework on Thursday 29 March 2018.
16 March 2018
As part of the curriculum in Year 2, children have to be able to recite poems from memory. This week, the children have a poem by Alan Ahlberg in their books which they should learn. Children can learn the whole poem or choose one of the coloured sections to learn.

Keeps copying my work, Miss.
What shall I do?
Go and sit in the hall, dear.
Go and sit in the sink.
Take your books on the roof, my lamb.
Do whatever you think.

Keeps taking my rubber, Miss.
What shall I do?
Keep it in your hand, dear.
Hide it up your vest.
Swallow it if you like, my love.
Do what you think is best.

Keeps calling me rude names, miss.
What shall I do?
Lock yourself in the cupboard, dear.
Run away to sea.
Do whatever you can, my flower.
But don’t ask me.

This week, our homework is Talk Time: What is beauty?
Children should discuss this question with someone at home.
In class this week, we’ve had a lesson about body image. We discussed that:
- beauty has different meanings
- there are different ways the media changes beauty
Talk about how beauty is in the ‘eye of the beholder’ and that what is beautiful to one person may be very different for another. Can your child explain what ‘media’ is and why physical appearance is altered for advertising purposes? Are children aware of the negative consequences that photo shopping or air brushing may have on young people?
We’ll discuss this as a class as part of our homework review.

This week, our homework is Talk Time: Is it OK to be proud?
Children should discuss this question with someone at home. It’d be great if you could focus on the difference between feeling proud and being boastful. We’ll discuss this as a class as part of our homework review.

The homework this week is Practice Make Perfect.
This week, we’ve been learning all about measuring. Your child’s homework is to find things in their bedroom that are longer and shorter than the 30cm piece of paper provided.
If you lose your paper ruler, please ask me for another one.

This week’s homework is Talk Time and is in preparation for next week’s Living and Learning theme (I know the difference between being proud and showing off).
What makes you proud?
Have a chat about anything and everything that makes you beam with pride. Perhaps it’s achievements or accomplishments, friends or family – whatever it is, be ready to explain and discuss in class on Thursday 22 March.
