The homeworks this week are Creative and Practice Makes Perfect.

The Creative homework is:

I can show what I have learnt about the General Election.

In this homework, children have to produce a piece of work which demonstrates what they have learnt over the past two weeks about the upcoming General Election. This could be about the political parties, their leaders, their policies / ideas or  their own ideas about politics.

Here are some of the ideas the children came up with:

  • A profile of a politician
  • An interview with a politician
  • A manifesto of your political plans
  • A 60 second video about a political party or leader
  • An interview with you, the leader of your own political party
  • A poster detailing your party, logo, slogan and political plans for the country

Pizza making

Posted on Friday 01 May 2015 by Mrs Freeman

Today, we’ve been making our own pizzas. We focused on particular skills such as chopping, grating and slicing. The children were able to use methods such as the ‘The Bridge’ and ‘Claw’ effectively. While the pizzas were cooking, the school was filled with an aroma making everyone’s taste buds tingle! I was particularly  impressed with how many offers to wash up there were!

Take a look at our master chefs at work.

This week the homework is creative and is due in on Wednesday 06 May.

I can show what I know about magnets and forces.

In class, we’ve been learning about different forces and magnets. This is a chance for your child to show what they know and have learnt over the past couple of weeks.

They could:

  • make a game
  • create a quiz
  • write a poem
  • draw and label different types of magnets
  • create a table to show magnetic and non magnetic materials, or…
  • any other creative idea they might have!

The spellings this week are linked with our current science topic of magnets and forces. Also, in class, we’re looking closely at root words, prefixes and suffixes. Added to the end of the spelling list is an extra challenge. Using the root word ‘act’ the children need to build a word family. For example, actress, action, acting.

  • repel
  • attract
  • magnet
  • friction
  • force
  • iron
  • copper
  • pole
  • materials
  • gravity
  • Extra challenge, use the root word ‘act’ to create a word family.

This week’s homework is creative and is due on Wednesday 06 May 2015.

If I ran the country I would…

It’s the General Election on Thursday 07 May so how would you like the country to be run? At home, get your child involved in thinking about what we are voting for and how it might change things across the country. What are the main parties called and what kind of things are they promising? Then, in as creative a way as you like, think about how you would run the country and what your main policies would be (as a serious bid or with crazy ideas just for a bit of fun).

Your child could…

  • create a speech for people to vote for you
  • draw a ‘Theme Park Map’ of the country as it would look if you ran it
  • create a manifesto
  • write a story with you as the prime minister
  • write a letter to the prime minister suggesting the policies you would put in place
I look forward to the interesting ideas you come up with for the country’s future.

Amazing attendance!
