Easter: Home learning

Posted on Monday 06 April 2020 by Mrs Wood

Good morning! I hope you all had a lovely weekend.

Over the next two weeks there won’t be daily learning tasks.

Instead, here are some ideas for things to do over the Easter period.

These are some links to a cbeebies programme called “Let’s celebrate” it shows children celebrating Easter along with a child friendly reference to the Easter Story.

https://youtu.be/-qVW9IjhIlU – preparing for Easter

https://youtu.be/StlJgYF-Ki8 – celebrating Easter.

https://youtu.be/jzzr9ogygwA – The Easter Story

Watch the Cbeebies Easter programmes -Talk about what you watch with your child.

Have you done any of the things that Toby has done to prepare for Easter?

Have you seen any spring flowers in the garden? Talk about their names and colours. Why don’t you pint and draw some?

Here are some activities that you may like to try over the Easter holidays.

Make an Easter egg picture? Cut out some egg shapes from paper and ask your child to decorate it.  Use zigzag patterns, wave patterns, horizontal lines, vertical lines and circles.

Easter egg hunt – Can you child help you to think of some clues for the Easter egg hunt? Can they write their instructions for the rest of the family?

Decorate an egg – Make a hard-boiled egg and allow it to cool down. Ask your child to decorate it using coloured pens. Use a slide or create a ramp with a large box propped against a chair. Whose egg rolls the furthest?

I hope you have a lovely Easter holiday and I look forward to hearing all about what you’ve been up to.

Transition to Year 1

Posted on Friday 03 April 2020 by Mrs Weekes

In the latest questionnaire sent home to parents, a lot of you asked about transition to Year 1.  There are many things that we do to prepare your child for the move into KS1 but I am very aware that this may look different this year. If school re-opens while they are still in Reception, this is what will be in place:

  • regular visits to the Year 1 classroom, in small groups, at set times
  • free flow in to the KS1 shared area so that they can explore
  • information evening for parents to make you aware of changes
  • morning play times with KS1 to mix more with children out of their year group
  • coming to more assemblies with the rest of the school
  • focused transition afternoon where they all visit the Year 1 teacher for an afternoon, as a class
  • once they start Year 1 in September, Mrs Burke visits them in Year 1 and they can have a wander back in to Reception every now and then
  • Autumn term of Year 1 focuses on them still learning through play but balanced with the Year 1 curriculum

Many things will stay the same: some areas of provision, support for your child, individual needs being met; continuation of phonics teaching; and communication with parents.  Even though, there are a lot of changes, many of them are practical arrangements and the rest is very gradual.

I understand that you may be anxious as transition arrangements may look a bit different this year; whatever happens, we will approach it in a way that means you and your child have as much chance as possible to explore any changes.

In the meantime, take a look at the class news and homework for Year 1 so you can see what they have been learning. Remember the age related expectations for all year groups are on the website, along with information about the National Curriculum; this might give you a broader picture of Year 1.

Once school re-opens, we will discuss transition further but I hope that this information answers some of your questions.

03 April 2020: Home learning

Good morning! I can’t believe it’s Friday again! I hope you’ve all been busy and enjoyed this week’s learning.

During the Easter holiday there won’t be daily posts. I will, however, send one post which will give you some ideas for things to do over the two weeks.

The most important message this Easter is to have fun as a family. Read together, play outside, bake, garden, watch a movie, sing and dance. Make the most of this time together.

A penguin writing reports?

Posted on Wednesday 01 April 2020 by Mrs Freeman

Look who turned up to help me write some of your school reports! Smartie gave me some help to make sure I stay safe when I am using my computer. Can you think of three things he might have said?

Also,Smartie would like to know if you are all using your manners. He has delivered some stickers for you so keep a look out on your work!  The stickers are at the bottom of this page and he has left extra on my kitchen table. Who will be the first to get a sticker on their manners work?                Good Manners Behaviour StickersGood Manners Behaviour StickersGood Manners Behaviour StickersGood Manners Behaviour StickersGood Manners Behaviour StickersGood Manners Behaviour StickersGood Manners Behaviour StickersGood Manners Behaviour Stickers

Arrangements for Year 3 learning

Posted on Wednesday 01 April 2020 by Mrs Weekes

As you all know, Miss Clifford leaves Moortown Primary at the end of this term. Unfortunately, Miss Clifford had to self-isolate in the last week that we were open so Mr Owen taught Year 3 for the last few days.

It is important that you know that Miss Clifford is still the Year 3 class teacher until the end of the Easter holidays, 19 April. Please make sure any communication about home learning is directed to her email address: graceclifford@spherefederation.org

The summer term starts on 20 April.

If we re-open in summer term, the class teacher will be Mr Ben Freeman. If we’re still closed, please direct any communications to Mr Owen’s email address: davidowen@spherefederation.org

This may seem confusing. The reason for this is that because Mr Freeman hasn’t worked at Moortown, he doesn’t know the children well enough to be able to respond to emails about the home learning. As a more experienced teacher who knows the class, we’d like Mr Owen to be the point of contact.

If you’ve any questions, please raise them with Mrs Weekes: headofmoortown@spherefederation.org

We all hope you’re staying happy and healthy.

Good morning. It’s April Fool’s day today. Have you played a trick on anyone yet?

Phonics

Words to read:

Words to write:

plum, swim, spoon, float

Phonics activity

Literacy: Story Treasure Hunt
Ask your grown-up to write 4-6 clues about a story you know well and hide the words around the house. For example, if they were leaving clues about Jack and the Beanstalk they might write ‘beanstalk’, ‘giant’, ‘cow’ and ‘Magic Beans’. Try and read the clues by yourself. Can you make a story map re-telling the story from the clues you have discovered?

Which story did you use?

I would love to see your story maps.

Maths: sharing

Try to share different numbers. Which numbers can’t you share?

Extra activity

Have a great day!

Don’t forget to stay in touch.
