Hi all!

Here’s some excellent cooking skills being shown off. They’re an Indian sweet dish called Jalebis. Don’t they look tasty?!

I wonder if anyone can guess the member of our class being very acrobatic in front of their apple tree?!

Welcome Back!

Posted on Tuesday 21 April 2020 by Mr Wain

Hello everybody,

I hope you’ve all managed to get back into the current ‘norm’ this week after what I hope was a lovely Easter holiday for you all.

Just a quick note from me – I’m sorry the images for the home learning tasks weren’t showing properly/at all and I hope that it didn’t cause too much inconvenience. Thank you for letting me know, too.

I know it may still feel strange having to do your learning from home –  it does for me! Despite this, remember that we are all in this together and you are all doing a superb job at getting on with it and generally being awesome!

I miss seeing you all and I hope to see you very soon.

Here are some pictures of learning that has already taken place this term – it looks fab!

please send any pictures/videos or just general updates of learning to oliwain@spherefederation.org

What beautiful presentation, too!

21 April 2020: Home learning

Posted on Tuesday 21 April 2020 by Mrs Wood

Good morning! I hope you are enjoying the lovely weather.

Here are today’s home learning activities.

In addition to these activities, there are lots of good lessons and ideas on BBC Bitesize.

The lessons begin from Year 1 but some of the games and ideas look to be suitable for younger children. They are even showing  Numberblocks!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

Phonics

Practise your letter formation in your home learning book.

Remember all the letters start on the line with a lead-in!

Words to write:

chip food queen ship

Please read the words to your child. They can then write them in their home learning book.

Phonics activity:

Can you write a sentence including one of the above words?

Remember that at this stage we are looking for children’s phonetic attempts at words. It is important your child grows into an independent learner. Encouraging your child to write the words as they sound rather than always spelling correctly is important. It encourages the children to use their own skills – rather than copy from an adult.

Literacy

Book of the week: The smartest giant in town

Listen to the story of the week.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfiPrA8E3qE

Draw a story map of the story.

Here is an example of a story map.

Don’t forget to send me photos of your story maps.

moortowneyfs@spherefederation.org

Maths 1 less

Count backwards from 20 using the song.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShqXL-zfLxY

Oh no! The song seems to have forgotten the number 0! We talk lots about the number 0 being nothing but still being a number. Try to sing the number 0 when singing the song.

Solve the number problems.

  • I have 5 fish fingers and I eat one. How many do I have left?
  • There are 10 children in the park. One child goes home. How many children are left in the park?
  • There are 14 chickens in the pen. 1 chicken escapes! How many chickens are left?
  •  I have 19 Easter eggs. I decide to give one to a friend. How many Easter eggs do I have left?

Draw the number stories. Can you make your own story?

Extra activity

I am really enjoying going outside and walking.

Have you noticed how the trees and plants are changing?

Can you draw or paint a picture to show that spring is here?

Have a lovely day!

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to another edition of the Y6 Hall of Home Learning Fame!  [deafening applause]

A huge congratulations to the winners below who have managed to snatch a place on the latest #HoHLF leaderboard!

First up, here at #HoHLF HQ, we were wowed by these amazing pieces of art!

Next up, the nature category! These entrants used the great outdoors and their own fab creativity to make patterns in the world around them. Maybe we should make the penguin on the third photo the #HoHLF mascot? Tweet us!

Third on the list is the adventure category where these brilliant dens prove you can make an awesome hiding place anywhere you like! I’ve also heard these were used for an ace reading spot – #HoHLF bows down to you!

And finally… it’s amazing what science experiments you can do at home!

Well done to everyone on this edition of #HoHLF! Tune in next time to see if you’ve made the highly sought after list!

Let’s stay positive!
