Book of the week: The smartest giant in town
Listen to the story of the week.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfiPrA8E3qE
Draw the characters from the story.
Talk with your adult about where the story is set and what happened.
Maths- 1 more
Count to 20 using the song (click on the link below) or chant the numbers forwards and backwards.
Oh no! The song seems to have forgotten the number 0! We talk lots about the number 0 being nothing but still being a number. Sing the song again including the number 0.

Solve the number problems:
- First, there were 5 rabbits hopping in the garden.
Then, 1 more rabbit hops into the garden. How many rabbits are there now?
- First, I had 6 sweets.
Then, my friend gives me 1 more.
How many do I have now?
- First, there were 12 children on the bouncy castle.
Then 1 more child jumped on.
How many children are on the bouncy castle now?
Can you draw the maths stories?
Challenge
Can you make up a maths story using 1 more?
If needed you can use objects to help you count.
Have a good day!
Hello from Mr Wain
Good afternoon, Year Five!
Just writing a quick message to say hello and check in with how you’re all doing!
I hope you’ve been enjoying the nice weather as much as me and have been able to do lots of fun things during this Easter holiday!
I’ve been kicking a football about in my garden and spent some time reading outside, too!
Jemima and Penelope have sent me this picture of their rainbow artwork they completed on Wednesday – I’ve been very impressed with their creative skills (I hope it didn’t take too long to tidy up!)
If you’ve also completed any of the Easter activities, I would love for you to send me an email showing me what you’ve done!
Looking forward to seeing you soon…
Mr Wain 🙂
Happy Easter and farewell Year Three
Hi Year Three,
I hope you’re all having a wonderful bank holiday Friday. I’ve spent this week in school with some children so their families can continue to work. We’ve had lots of fun and have even painted a giant rainbow!
This week is my last week as your Year Three teacher. I’ve been thinking of you all lots and while it’s been a little bit sad not to have a proper goodbye I’ve been happy just knowing that you’re all safe at home with your families.
I hope you’re not giving your ‘new teachers’ a hard time at home and maybe even teaching them a thing or two! We’ve learnt so much together and I have no doubt that when school is back open you will continue to be your amazing selves and continue all your hard work.
We’ve had such a fun year and I’m going to miss you all lots. Here are some of my highlights. Enjoy!
Happy Easter, Year Three.
Hello
Hello Reception Class!
I hope you are enjoying the lovely weather and are having fun at home.
I have come across a few more fun activities you might like to try next week.
Have fun- send me some photos and I will see you all soon!
Hello from Mr Parker
Good morning, Year One!
This is just a quick message to say, hello!
I hope that you’re all OK and are enjoying a little break from the daily learning tasks. I hope this little break has given you the opportunity to do lots of different and fun things to keep you busy!
If you’ve done any of the Easter activities that are on the website, please feel free to email them to me – I’d love to see them.
I hope to see you all again soon and remember…
Keep smiling! 🙂
Quick hello to everyone
We hope you are all still managing to fit in some learning as well as having some fun. Thank you to everyone who has sent photos through to us – we have really enjoyed looking at them and feel very proud of you all.
In this photo, Penelope and her sister have been very resourceful. They have collected random objects from around the house to create this lovely rainbow. We are sure you will be as impressed as we are! Well done, girls!
Keep up with all the hard work and please keep sending the photos.
Remember though, have fun, be kind and stay active!
Hello from Mr Wilks!
Easter: Home learning
Good morning! I hope you all had a lovely weekend.
Over the next two weeks there won’t be daily learning tasks.
Instead, here are some ideas for things to do over the Easter period.
These are some links to a cbeebies programme called “Let’s celebrate” it shows children celebrating Easter along with a child friendly reference to the Easter Story.
https://youtu.be/-qVW9IjhIlU – preparing for Easter
https://youtu.be/StlJgYF-Ki8 – celebrating Easter.
https://youtu.be/jzzr9ogygwA – The Easter Story
Watch the Cbeebies Easter programmes -Talk about what you watch with your child.
Have you done any of the things that Toby has done to prepare for Easter?
Have you seen any spring flowers in the garden? Talk about their names and colours. Why don’t you pint and draw some?
Here are some activities that you may like to try over the Easter holidays.
Make an Easter egg picture? Cut out some egg shapes from paper and ask your child to decorate it. Use zigzag patterns, wave patterns, horizontal lines, vertical lines and circles.
Easter egg hunt – Can you child help you to think of some clues for the Easter egg hunt? Can they write their instructions for the rest of the family?
Decorate an egg – Make a hard-boiled egg and allow it to cool down. Ask your child to decorate it using coloured pens. Use a slide or create a ramp with a large box propped against a chair. Whose egg rolls the furthest?
I hope you have a lovely Easter holiday and I look forward to hearing all about what you’ve been up to.
Home learning highlights
Thank you so much for sending me photos of all your great learning-seeing these has really cheered me up!
Transition to Year 1
In the latest questionnaire sent home to parents, a lot of you asked about transition to Year 1. There are many things that we do to prepare your child for the move into KS1 but I am very aware that this may look different this year. If school re-opens while they are still in Reception, this is what will be in place:
- regular visits to the Year 1 classroom, in small groups, at set times
- free flow in to the KS1 shared area so that they can explore
- information evening for parents to make you aware of changes
- morning play times with KS1 to mix more with children out of their year group
- coming to more assemblies with the rest of the school
- focused transition afternoon where they all visit the Year 1 teacher for an afternoon, as a class
- once they start Year 1 in September, Mrs Burke visits them in Year 1 and they can have a wander back in to Reception every now and then
- Autumn term of Year 1 focuses on them still learning through play but balanced with the Year 1 curriculum
Many things will stay the same: some areas of provision, support for your child, individual needs being met; continuation of phonics teaching; and communication with parents. Even though, there are a lot of changes, many of them are practical arrangements and the rest is very gradual.
I understand that you may be anxious as transition arrangements may look a bit different this year; whatever happens, we will approach it in a way that means you and your child have as much chance as possible to explore any changes.
In the meantime, take a look at the class news and homework for Year 1 so you can see what they have been learning. Remember the age related expectations for all year groups are on the website, along with information about the National Curriculum; this might give you a broader picture of Year 1.
Once school re-opens, we will discuss transition further but I hope that this information answers some of your questions.
