Great start Year 6!

Posted on Wednesday 07 September 2016 by Mr Roundtree

Welcome back to your new – and final – school year. Year 6 have made a fab start with lots of hard work going on already but lots of us have been surprised that we can still be having fun. We’re well on the way reminding ourselves about reading and writing numbers (up to 10,000,000) and recapping on nouns, verbs and all sorts of other word classes.

Our Where in the World topic has begun and we’re busy planning an inter-railing trip around Europe and there’s lots to think about:

  • How many countries can we visit?
  • How long should we stay in each place?
  • What do we want to do there?
  • How long will our journey be from one place to another – and should we travel over night and sleep on the train?

We worked really well together to get an amazing trip planned.

We had to use lots of Maths skills and map skills as well as problem-solving and working together.

We’ll put up a post to show you our final plans when we’re done.

School Saving Club

Posted on Wednesday 07 September 2016 by Mrs Taylor

There is currently an added incentive to open a School Saving Club account with Leeds Credit Union.

All children in Year 3, who have an account, will be credited with £10 from Leeds City Council.

Take a look at this video to find out more.

If you are interested in your child opening an account, please contact the office.  We have half termly after-school paying in dates where children can pay in money into their accounts.

Welcome back!

Year 2 had a great first day, settling into their new routines and getting to know all about their new class. There was a lot to take in!

We also welcomed three new children to the class and hope they settle in at Moortown Primary.

Part of our initial SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) learning was to consider what makes a happy, fair and safe classroom.

From this, the children created our class charter.

We want to have a fair, happy and safe place to learn in so we will…

  • Be kind
  • Follow our school rules
  • Respect others
  • Be helpful
  • Listen to others
  • Share ideas
  • Work together
  • Share
  • Ask for help
  • Try our hardest

Welcome!

What a great start to a new year!

All the children returned to school today looking very smart and eager to learn. Well done to all for demonstrating a mature attitude on their return to school and the start of a new term. Keep it up!

There’s going to be plenty going on in class during the new term so be sure to stay tuned to our class page – there will be lots of news regarding our learning as well as handy hints and celebrating achievements.

If you need to contact us at any point, please feel free to pop in. Mr Owen and I are happy to help wherever we can.

We are both looking forward to getting to know the children, a year full of learning and even a bit of fun!

New SEAL theme – New Beginnings

Posted on Saturday 27 August 2016 by Mrs Taylor

As we start the new school year, our SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) theme focuses on New Beginnings.

We begin the theme with a manners SEAL statement, I can greet someone politely.

Capture

New Beginnings allows children the opportunity to discuss and reflect on how they or others may feel in a new situation or setting. This SEAL theme offers children the opportunity to see themselves as valued individuals within a community, and to contribute to shaping a welcoming, safe and fair learning community for all.

During the theme, the key areas of learning are empathy, self-awareness, social skills and motivation.

Through discrete SEAL lessons, circle times and across the curriculum, children will explore feelings of happiness and excitement, sadness, anxiety and fearfulness, while learning (and putting into practice) shared models for calming down and problem-solving.

New Beginnings supports the development of a learning community in each classroom where all members feel that they belong. Class contracts, produced at the start of the year, allow children to contribute to how they feel they can achieve a safe and fair learning community.

Have a happy and healthy holiday

Posted on Sunday 24 July 2016 by Mr Roundtree

It’s the summer holidays at last, so there are no homework or spelling activities. Enjoy the holidays instead!

Does your child spend less time outdoors than prison inmates? A survey suggests three-quarters of children do, as the time spent playing in parks, woods and fields has shrunk dramatically due to lack of green spaces, digital technology and parents’ fears.

Research shows that playing outdoors promotes social skills, improves vision, reduces stress, increases attention span and provides vitamin D.

Thank You

Posted on Friday 22 July 2016 by

Mrs Maqbool and I want to thank all of the children for a fantastic year in Year 1. They have been fantastic learners and happy children! This was my first year of teaching and it has been a brilliant one thanks to the brilliant attitude which the children have – we will miss teaching them next year!

We also wish to thank you, the parents, for your continued support throughout the year. Thank you for the work that you put in to help your children become good learners by cultivating positive attitudes in them. We really appreciate the things you do at home which help us and you should all be proud of the wonderful children you have!

Thank you also for the very generous gifts which we received. We really appreciate it and it is lovely to hear how happy you have been with your child’s progress throughout the year.

So thank you very much and enjoy your summer holiday.
