Video message from Mr Parker!

Good afternoon, Year One!

I’ve had a little go at recording a short video message for you as it has been so long since you’ve seen my face. It’s a bit odd seeing and hearing yourself on camera so I’m sorry if I come across a bit nervous!

Follow this link to view the message.

Enjoy!

Grandad’s answers…

Posted on Sunday 29 March 2020 by Mr Roundtree

Thank you so much for all of your questions for my grandad about his teddy. As there were so many, I couldn’t choose them all but I made sure that I asked him at least one of the questions that each of you sent me. Find his answers below:

How old is your teddy?

“He is 85 years old in August.”

Where did you get it from?

“My mother’s friend got it for me as a present when I was one week old.”

What is its name?

“I just call it Teddy.”

What does it feel like?

“It’s quite hard but soft in places.”

Does it go everywhere with you?

“Not anymore – it just stays in my house. It used to when I was a little boy. I moved around a lot, especially when I younger during the Second World War.”

Why is it so unfluffy?

“It used to have lots of fur but it has become worn over the years. My mother had to repair it a few times.

Does it have other clothes?

“No. It has another suit but it got damaged during the war so my mum had to make it this shirt. It’s worn this shirt since around 1941.”

Have you ever lost your teddy?

“Yes – once. I left it on a train in Lincolnshire around 1944. Luckily, someone noticed I had left it and gave to the train porter who left it at the next station. My mother sent a letter to the train company to see if anywhere had it. They sent a letter back, telling her it was waiting for us at Lincoln station and we went and picked it up.”

Do you still love your teddy?

“Of course I do. I once watched a television show where you could send in your old toys to be restored. I never wanted to do that as then it wouldn’t be my teddy.

When my mum went to drop some things round at my grandad’s house, he had this little message for you.

He’s hoping that when we get back to school, he will be able to come and visit you all so that you can meet him and his teddy.

Well done, Year One!

Sports Relief

Posted on Sunday 15 March 2020 by Mr Roundtree

On Friday, the children completed a Sports Relief challenge. Their challenge was to see how many laps of the MUGA they could do in 30 minutes. They set their own target and tried to achieve it. You can see on their faces how much fun they had!

To celebrate World Book Day, the children brought in their favourite book from home. The  children in Year One have a real love of reading and couldn’t wait to read and share their books with their friends.

Living and Learning: body image parent and carer guide

Posted on Sunday 08 March 2020 by Mrs Taylor

Our focus in Living and Learning, for the rest of this half term, is body image.

What is body image?

Body image describes our idea of how our body looks and how we think it is perceived by others. This can include our thoughts and feelings about our height, weight, shape, skin colour, and our appearance and attractiveness more broadly.

This parent and carer guide has been designed to give practical ideas to support your child in building their emotional resilience in this area.

Living and Learning: manners

Posted on Tuesday 25 February 2020 by Mrs Taylor

Our manners focus this week, in Living and Learning, is all about covering our mouth to prevent the spread of germs.

You’re just about to sneeze or cough but, oh dear, you don’t have a tissue. What should you do? Cover your mouth and nose with your hands? Surely that’s what polite people do.

But hold it! If you sneeze or cough into your hands (and then fail to wash your hands straight away), you’ll only be spreading colds and flu germs on everything you touch.

And that’s because germs (as long as they stay moist) can live for HOURS on hard surfaces such as tables, phones and door handles. And not just on objects – everybody you touch will be contaminated, too.

And of course, vice versa – if somebody else has sneezed or coughed on their hands, they’re leaving a germ-trail for you to pick up.

So what’s it best to do?

Here it is in action.
