Living and Learning: 8Rs
Having reflected on all eight Rs for learning, Year 4 decided they learnt most about resilience this term in our tower building lesson.
As a team, we had to try and build the tallest tower but it kept getting knocked down. Despite our frustrations, we had to encourage each other to carry on and start again. We talked about situations that make us feel like this and strategies we had to help us to keep going.

School Savings Club paying in dates 2019/2020
Did you know we offer a School Savings Club in association with Leeds Credit Union?
The account is open to all children and it is free to set up. As there is not minimum deposit requirement, it is a great way for your child/children to learn the importance of money.
As an extra incentive, Year 3 pupils who open an account, or who currently have an account, will be credited with £10.
We offer paying in sessions every half term where you can bring along any savings to be paid into your child’s account.
The paying in dates for this year are at 3.15-3.45pm on the following dates (the penultimate Monday of each half term).

If you’re unable to attend in person, please hand in any money to be deposited to the office in a sealed envelope addressed to Mrs Tiffany.

Times Tables
0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36
We’ve moved on to the 3 times table this week. In class, we have explored patterns in the three times table:
- It goes odd, even, odd, even
- If you add the digits together (15… 1 + 5 = 6), you always get a multiple of three
- The ones column goes back to 3, 6, 9 once you get to 10 times 3 or 20 times 3 or 30 times 3
- What arrays can we make?
We talk about how we can use facts we know to work out fact we’re less confident with:
I’m unsure about 8 x 3 but I know 5 x 3 and 3 x 3 so I can add them together to get 8 x 3.
Rather than just answering questions or reciting the times table at home, see if you can explore the times table like we have in class.
Healthy Schools revalidation
We are proud to continue to be a happy and healthy school.
‘Congratulations on re-validating your Healthy Schools Status using the School Health Check tool, indicating that your school has self-evaluated whole school health. This demonstrates that your school is continuing to embed and improve provision against the four core areas of Healthy Schools.’
Health and Wellbeing service, Leeds City Council
Our re-validation was based on the four core areas of Healthy Schools –
- Personal Social Health Education (PSHE)
- Healthy Eating
- Physical Activity
- Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health
A visit will be arranged later this year to externally reassess this self-validation.
This status is valid for three years before re-validation is necessary (August 2019 – August 2022). During this period, a visit will be arranged to externally reassess your self-validation. Once the school has had a successful reassessment, you will then receive a Healthy Schools plaque and feedback report. In the meantime, we do recommend that you update the School Health Check on an annual basis.
Aldi Kit for Schools
Aldi’s Kit for Schools promotion is giving twenty primary schools the chance to win £20,000 to kick-start a health legacy for their school.

Maths in the trees
Continuing our treehouse design, we got down to the nitty-gritty this week, thinking about how wide our platform would need to be to fit on our mini tree and how tall our ladder will have to be to reach the branches.
First, we had to measure how high and how wide our tree is before measuring certain parts for the different design criteria we need to meet.
Go Ape – What a Great Day!
Year three and four had a brilliant day at Go Ape in Temple Newsam last Friday – and not just because we were very lucky with the weather.
For half of the day, we explored the woodlands, creating mazes out of sticks and mini dens which helped us think about constructing from natural materials like we will be when making our treehouses. Some of us chose to create some art inspired by nature.
The other half of the day was spent amongst the branches on the Go Ape course. The children had a great time with many conquering fears around every corner. Lots of the children noticed how the equipment had been constructed too and talk about how they could use that idea to help their treehouse construction at school.
Themed menu
Catering Leeds, our school meal provider, will be running a special themed menu on Thursday 3rd October. Please contact the office, as soon as possible, if your child would like a school meal on this day (no action needed if your child normally has a school meal on this day).
Bike to School Week
This week, it is Bike to School Week. Bike to School Week is a week long event designed to showcase the benefits of cycling to school.
Have you been inspired by the current UCI Road World Championships to get on your bike? Could you make biking to school one of your active methods of travelling to school this week?
To link with Bike to School week, our Year 1 class will be completing their Balance, Pedal, Go bike training this week.
