19 May 2020: Home learning
Happy Tuesday, folks!
Today’s tasks are maths, reading and geography.
Y6 Maths – yesterday’s answers.
(Note that Q15-19 should read Q7-11.)
Y6 Maths – LO: multiplication
Today, we return to defend Mathematica using our multiplication skills. Here’s what the critics have been saying:
“The best maths game (where you have to defend Mathematica) on the internet” – Boris Johnson
“Probably shouldn’t have been made” – Xbox founder (probably jealous)
“Miss Wilson is on fire. She makes fewer than five mistakes – a rare must see” – Mrs Weekes
Make sure you have a pencil and paper / home learning book ready! Click here to access today’s video.
Email me a picture of your character, too!

19 May: Home learning
Hope you completed the activities from yesterday’s home learning ok and you are ready for what we have in store for today. Let’s make a start.

Great work – time for an active break from imoves.
Task 2 Maths
LO: I can follow a route around a map.
We are going to complete our position and direction learning with a lesson taken from Oak National Academy. When completing this lesson, click on next activity in the bottom right hand corner to move through the learning.
Task 3 Geography
LO: What are physical and human features?
Today we are thinking about different geographical features. These features are split into physical and human features.
Physical features are natural.
Human features are things that have been created by humans and would not have existed in nature without humans.
1.Firstly have a look at this document to show what physical and human features might be.
2.Using these examples, sort them into physical and human features.
3.Can you think of any other physical and human features you could add?
Hope you have stayed motivated to complete your learning for today. We’ll be back tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of the day.

Hello Year 1!
I hope you had a great weekend.
Similar to a couple of weeks ago, it would be great if you could write a quick sentence about what you’ve been up. Then, take a picture of it and send me it to me. It’d be lovely to hear how you’ve been keeping busy.
Onto today’s main tasks…
Reading
Remind yourself of these split diagraphs:

Then, click on this link and complete the sheet.
Also, here is a link to another traditional tale. We will be focusing on this tale this week.

18 May 2020: Home learning
Good morning everybody and happy Monday!
Before we start, I’d just like to apologise if the formatting is sometimes a little unclear – the website doesn’t recognise the enter button sometimes for unknown reasons! So sorry about this and if it’s really an issue, let me know.
Hope everyone is keeping happy and healthy! You can remember the acronym CALMER to help you!
- Compassion – be kind to yourself and be mindful of mental health
- Activity – keeping moving and exercising can have huge benefits
- Limit social media where you can
- Manage any worries – don’t bottle it up! Talk to someone.
- Engage with family and friends on the phone, by text or video call
- Routine – establishing a routine can help you feel a sense of control in these uncertain times
Y5 Maths – LO: adding and subtracting fractions

18 May: Home learning
Hello Year 2 and hope you are all well and you enjoyed your break over the weekend. It was lovely to speak to lots of families last week and please keep up all the great work you are doing at home.
If there is anything we can help with at this time, please send us an email (carolinetaylor@spherefederation.org and jackiefreeman@spherefederation.org) and we will try to help.
Alongside, or instead of, the home learning posted here, don’t forget the websites for home learning document to provide additional learning opportunities.
Are you set for a week of home learning before a well earned week off? Here we go!
Task 1 Reading
1.Click here to hear the fluency text for this week, What plants need to grow.
2.Read the fluency text yourself.
3. Underline/write out any words you are unsure of and find out their meaning.
Challenge: Can you use a synonym (a word or phrase that means exactly or nearly the same as another word or phrase) for the words you are unsure of and swap them into the text? For example, you could change ‘tries’ to ‘attempts’.
Task 2 Spelling
The spellings this week can all have the suffix -ful or –less added to them (some can have both). The underlined words have an extra rule to follow when adding the suffix: drop the y for an i.
To make each spelling you need to add the suffix to the root word. For example, delight (root word) + ful (suffix) = delightful and use + less = useless.
1.Watch this video, What are suffixes? The suffix less means without, eg penniless means without pennies and the suffix ful means full of eg beautiful means full of beauty.
2.Write out your spellings (including the suffixes) using your neatest handwriting.
3.Choose one of the activities below to help you learn these new spellings.
- Paint some of your words with paint (on paper) or water (outside).
- Put your words in a box of some kind. Play music and pass the box. When the music stops pull out a word and read it. The other person must spell it. Get points for a correct spelling.
- Cut out letters from a newspaper or magazine to make some of your spelling words.
- Or choose any activity from our spelling guide.
4.Finally, get moving with this Super Movers video about prefixes and suffixes.
Task 3 Maths
1.Complete this BBC Bitesize lesson all about bonds to 100.
This learning is based on multiples of 10 eg 90+10=100 so a challenge, if needed, would be to add any two numbers to equal 100 eg 41+59=100.
2.Test out your knowledge by playing Hit the Button (select Number Bonds and play one of the games highlighted below).
Good work today, Year 2. You could have a go at this puzzle, from the childrens’ newspaper First News, to finish your learning for today. You can access the current First News paper here.
