Our spelling list leads on from the spelling activity last week. All of the spellings have -ible or -able endings. For Friday’s test, I’ll test some of these words but will also test words from their word families or even words that have the same spelling pattern but weren’t on the spelling list.

All children should be practising their spellings in their homework book using the techniques we’ve discussed in class.

  • tolerable
  • edible
  • admirable
  • horrible
  • sensible
  • breakable
  • applicable
  • incredible
  • considerable
  • terrible

For Mathletics you have been assigned one task. Some children have been assigned

ADD AND SUBTRACT: Add Multi-Digit Numbers 2.

and others have been assigned

ADD AND SUBTRACT: Estimation: Add and Subtract.

Complete the task and then have a go at Live Mathletics and see how many points you can get from Sunday to Thursday, when your homework’s due.

This week’s homework is Talk Time and will be discussed on Thursday 29 September.

I try and understand other people’s feelings.

This is our SEAL statement for next week. Children should discuss the statement at home and write some notes to help with our discussion in class.

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

Posted on Thursday 22 September 2016 by Mr Roundtree

Our Class Novel topic has begun and we’re well on the way with ours: The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas. As this novel is set during World War Two, lots of our learning will be centred around this – something the children said they’d like to learn about last year.

Although the children knew that their class novel would be linked to WWII, they didn’t know which novel I’d chosen. So, on Monday, they entered the school of code breaking and had to break the code to find out what the novel was.

Help at home by asking about the class novel:

  • What’s happening in the story at the moment?
  • Are you enjoying it?
  • What have you learnt about the war while reading it?
  • What are the characters like?

Our class novel is…

…’When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit‘.

Yesterday, we had a great first day of our new big topic all about a class novel.

First, to find out the name of our book we learnt all about Enigma machines and became code-breakers to decipher the title!

Then, we enjoyed reading the first chapter. As we read we answered questions and found out about some key terminology surrounding the Second World War. Ask your child about what they learnt!

In the afternoon, we ‘wondered’ about the artefacts in our room and looked at some of my Grandad’s medals/war memorabilia.

We’re all very excited about our big topic and we’ll keep you posted about all the learning we’ll be doing.

Tuck shop returns

Posted on Monday 19 September 2016 by Mrs Taylor

The KS2 fruit tuck shop returns tomorrow at playtime.

We’ve had a great response to our pre-payment option with 81 portions of fruit each week.

You can still pay on the day – 20p per portion.

PE, ‘relax and read’ and ‘show and tell’

Posted on Monday 19 September 2016 by Mrs Wood

Our PE day will be Wednesday. We will begin changing the children for PE from next week, 28 September. Please make sure your child’s PE kit is in school.

Relax and read will begin on Thursday 29 September. Please stay with your child on Thursday morning to read and choose a library book to take home.

Show and tell will be every Friday. Beginning Friday 30 September, the children can bring a small interesting item from home to show and talk about.

Thanks.

Wonderful website

Posted on Monday 19 September 2016 by Mr Roundtree

A really thoughtful email arrived in our in-tray over the weekend…

Just want to say thank you for a great school website with lots of learning resources.
I came across your website when I was searching for spelling tests for my 5 year old daughter. I am very impressed with the extensive range of learning tools on your site. This will help me teach all my children.
I am from London and will be sharing your school website with my children’s school, hoping they can improve their current webpage.
Thanks once again and keep up the good work.

We’re happy that children, parents / carers and sometimes teachers benefit from using what’s on the website, whether they have a direct connection with our school or not.

‘Scoot the Route’ 26 – 30 September

Posted on Monday 19 September 2016 by Mrs Taylor

Next week, we’ll be supporting Leeds City Council’s ‘Scoot the Route’ initiative to promote scooting to school to help reduce congestion at the school gates and encourage pupils to lead more healthy active lifestyles.

We will be running a competition throughout the week whereby children will be issued a ticket (below) at the gate if they come to school on their scooter.  They need to complete the ticket and hand it in to the office.  All tickets will then go in to a draw on Friday 30 September where children have the chance of winning one of five £10 Love2Shop vouchers.

Don’t forget you can park your scooter near the bike storage area using one of our new scooter storage pods.

It’s Gold again!

Posted on Sunday 18 September 2016 by Mrs Taylor

The School Games Mark is a Government led awards scheme launched in 2012 to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community.  Schools in England are able to assess themselves across bronze, silver and gold levels of the mark based on participation in competitions, extra-curricular sporting activities, sports leadership and local club links.

Once again, we’re proud to receive a Gold award!

Thank you to all pupils, parents and staff who continue to have such enthusiasm for participation.
