Here are your learning activities for today.

Phonics

Write the oo words. Can you sort them into short oo and long oo?

Maths

Watch Numberblocks .

Can you complete the part part whole models?

Make some number cards on paper from 11-20.

Due to the current situation in school, we have decided to cancel our trip to Valley Gardens on the 7 July.

Instead, we will walk to  Moortown Park for a picnic.

Please send your child in their uniform and with a packed lunch and drink.

We will still have a wonderful time and an ice-cream!

We have been so impressed with the maths learning in Reception lately.

The children have a good understanding of tens and ones and can recall number facts including doubles.

This week our maths learning is focussing on grouping and sharing and odd and even numbers.

Literacy

We are continuing to read and retell the story, ‘The Train Ride’ and this week the children will write about where they would like to go on a train.

Phonics

We are nearing the end of Phase 4 and the rest of this term will focus on applying their phonic knowledge to read and write sentences.

Please keep practising the phonemes and words and read with your child.  A comment in the reading record really helps us.

The children have been fascinated by maps during our topic. We made a map of Moortown and the children made their own houses. They have enjoyed looking at maps of the local area and beyond and drawn their own maps.

This week has been very busy and very hot.

The children have enjoyed the new playground and spending time learning outdoors.

Our theme this half term will be ‘Journeys’. We have been thinking about the types of journeys we take and how we get there. Please send photos of any journeys your children make-even if it’s just walking to school!

Literacy

We are reading the book ‘The train ride’ and writing about where we would like to go on a train.

Phonics

We are still learning to blend and segment words with 4 or more letters. The children are all attempting to write a sentence and using full stops and capital letters.

Maths

This week’s focus is doubling.

The children have learnt that double means ‘twice as many’. They  have been building doubles using real objects and mathematical equipment.  

Please remember to send children with a sunhat and apply suncream as we are making the most of this sunny weather.

The children have been enjoying lots of physical activities including skipping, movement play and PE.

Phonics

We are continuing our Phase 4 phonics learning and learning to blend and segment words with four phonemes such as; stop, black, float, and storm.

We will continue to send sheets of words home for your child to blend. Please keep practising the phase 3 phonemes, especially ar, or, ow, oi, ur, ear, air, ure and er.

Maths

This week we will continue to learn about subtraction by taking away objects and using ten frames to help us see how many are left.

Literacy

This week’s story is ‘Mad about Minibeasts’. The children have been writing a class minibeast poem and using adjectives to describe their favourite minibeast. They have been making them with playdough.
