Catering Agency, our school meal provider, will be running a special themed menu on Wednesday 02 November: Bonfire Celebrations. Please contact the office if your child would like a school dinner on this day.
School Saving Club
Does your child have a School Saving Club account in association with Leeds Credit Union?
If so, our next paying in date is this Thursday 13 October 3.15-3.45pm. If you can’t make this date, then the next one will be on Thursday 08 December at 3.15-3.45pm.
Children must be accompanied to the sessions.
If you can’t attend the date, you can bring money to the office in a sealed envelope marked School Saving Club for the attention of Miss Hale.
School Saving Club accounts can still be opened. Please ask at the office for an application form.
Children who are in Year 3 will have their account credited by Leeds City Council with £10 once opened.
New triathlon satellite club
This new club has recently started on Mondays from 4pm-5.45pm at Middleton Park bike hub and is suitable for all abilities.
Bikes are available if needed and the fun sessions will focus on improving running and cycling.
Looking at our homework

This week’s homework was to write ten sentences about our trip to Eden Camp. We all looked at each others’ and marked them. I swapped with Mia, Ava and Sarah. When we were marking them, we chose our three favourite sentences – they were amazing. We always write a star and a step which helps tell us what we are doing well and what we are doing not so well.
This is my favourite one that Mia wrote: “Quickly, scared but exited, we rushed through the Blitz a number of times.”
Who knew we were all potters at heart?
At the beginning of our Class Novel topic, we discussed what learning we’d like to do across the eight weeks. Design and Technology was a clear favourite so this week we’re designing, making and evaluating our own toy planes.
We started our project by exploring images of WWII planes and from this designed our own models, thinking about how we could make it work if modelling it with clay.
Tuesday afternoon saw us donning aprons and testing our pottery skills. It was a fab afternoon with a lovely atmosphere, focused minds and smiling faces.

And now we wait… Once they’re dry, we’ll looking again at our designs and think about how we want to finish the overall design.
Eden Camp
What a great day we had at Eden Camp. Here are a few photos for you to enjoy of our day. I’m not going to tell you too much though because the children are going to be writing a recount of their day on Friday this week so we’ll publish a couple of those to give you a better idea of what we got up to.

Eden Camp
Year 5 and 6 had an amazing day learning all about WW2 at Eden Camp today.
We learnt loads of new things and had a blast going back in time. We saw weapons, planes, medals, submarines and even experienced what it was like to be involved in the blitz!
Ask your child about their day and quiz them about all their learning. I wonder what their favourite parts of the day were?
Also, on behalf of all the staff, may I thank Mrs Gibbins and Mrs Sykes for volunteering to come along with us today – we wouldn’t have had enough adults to make the trip possible without parental help. Sure you had fun, too!
Scoot the Route
We’ve had a great response to the Scoot the Route scooter promotion this week with lots of names in the draw for one of our five prizes tomorrow. There is one more chance tomorrow.
We’d love to see the children continue to use their scooters, alongside walking and biking to school, to prevent congestion, improve safety and have a happy, healthy and active start to the day!
Yorkshire’s Rio Heroes
Welcome back Yorkshire’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes with a special homecoming parade! On Wednesday 28 September, a carnival atmosphere will take hold of Leeds as the athletes are welcomed home in true Yorkshire style.
A host of athletes have confirmed their attendance, including triathletes Alistair and Jonny Brownlee; World, European and Paralympic champion Hannah Cockroft, MBE; diver and gold medallist Jack Laugher; and rowers Andy Triggs Hodge and Paul Bennett who both claimed gold.
There will be a lively parade, with samba bands, brass bands, colourful performers and of course open top buses and vehicles carrying the athletes. Parade celebrations will start at 5.15pm, and we would love to see the people of Yorkshire come out in force to line the city centre route and cheer on these inspiring men and women.
History linked to Topic
This week in topic, we were looking at World War 2 in comparison to other British history. First, we sorted pictures of artefacts into the age group we thought they fitted into – we were surprised by some of them. Here are some photos…
Then later, while we were looking at artefacts, we saw a video of Hitler on YouTube; lots of us found it super weird and he was very loud. We also saw a real gas mask.
In The Space, we made a timeline of age groups. We also learnt loads of interesting facts about World War 2: it was mainly in Europe, it started in 1939 and ended in 1945 and finally we learnt why it started. 
Overall, Y6 have learnt lots this week.
