Hello Year 4s!
I hope you had a good half-term and managed to enjoy yourselves and make the most of the warm weather. Things are changing a little this half-term as school as opening to more children. This means that most teachers will be back working at school full-time. The good news is I’m going to still be doing your home learning. However, I’m also now doing the home learning for Y1, Y2 and Y3. Hopefully, you won’t notice much of a difference but there may possibly be fewer video lessons with me.
Anyway, on to today’s learning…

Happy Monday, everyone!
We hope you’ve had a brilliant half term and managed to enjoy the sun. We look forward to seeing some of you over the coming weeks. If we’re not seeing you face to face, remember we’re still here for you should you need to email us about anything – big or small.
Today’s tasks are maths, reading and computing.

Challenge
Write your own story problems and email them to me for me to attempt!
Y5 Maths – LO: decimals up to 2 d.p.
This is some new learning for us in Y5.
Your task is to watch the videos and answer the questions as we go along in your home learning book.
The video is split into two parts because I was talking for too long – my bad!
Video 1: Recording #10.mp4
Video 2: Recording #11.mp4
Please email me with your questions if you would like any help – big or small!
Y5&6 Reading – LO: raise queries about texts
Your task today is to spend 20 minutes reading FirstNews (or longer if you’d like) and create some questions based on what you’ve read.
Your questions must help to improve your understanding of something within the newspaper!
Your questions could include:
– asking for the meaning of a word
– asking where a place is
– how to pronounce a word
– what an article is about
– they could even be about the appearance of the newspaper (why are some articles presented the way they are?)…
Or anything that you would like to better your understanding of within the newspaper!
We would like you to come up with five different questions and find out their answers.
Challenge
Find five pieces of vocabulary that you are unfamiliar with inside the copy of FirstNews. Define each word and as an extra challenge, use it in a sentence or silly sentence!
We would love you to email us with your questions! Alternatively, you could ask someone in your home to answer them or safely use the internet to improve your understanding!
Y5&6 Computing – LO: What makes a good computer game?
Your task today is to use this BBC Bitesize article to find out what makes a good computer game and have a go at making your own.
Read the article, watch the two videos and complete the two activities at the bottom.
Challenge
Email us with a picture of your game!

Half-term Home Learning
Because this week is half-term, we’re taking a break from the usual daily home learning tasks (just like we did at Easter). Instead, we’ve prepared a menu of home learning activities that you might want to dip into this week – these are optional only, but you might want to encourage your child to have a go at being a quiz master, doing some up-cycling, presenting a cookery masterclass or any of the other activities.
Whatever you decide to do, we hope you have a happy and healthy half-term.
