I’m very sorry for the delay in posting. Here are the words and rule for this week’s spellings.

We are learning to spell words beginning with the anti and inter prefix.

Here are the words we would like you to learn at home. Could you write each word into a sentence?

In lessons, the children have been learning another key spelling rule: drop the e for ing.  All of the words in the list are verbs.

Before the suffix ing is added to the verb, the e needs to be removed.

  • to like                       liking
  • to give                      giving
  • to excite                  exciting

Group 1

This week’s spellings are based on words with alternative pronunciations of the digraphs ow (show rather than owl), ie (field rather than tie) and ea (head rather than sea).

For this week’s spellings, we were looking at spelling the /o/ phoneme with an ‘a’ after a ‘w’.

We were also looking at spelling the /ir/ phoneme with an ‘or’ after a ‘w’.

Group 1

This week’s spellings are based on words with split digraphs (the sound is split with another letter in between – eg the a-e sound is split by the letter d in made). There is also a word, Eve, that is a name (proper noun) and the children need to remember to use a capital letter at the start of this word to get it correct.
