Measuring Up!
As part of our Maths learning we tried to use anything we could find to measure length! As you can see we used plastic counting pegs, cubes, dinosaurs and bears. Predictions were made first and then we measured to see if we were accurate. Marvellous measuring – learning about length!
Moortown In Bloom
A piece of land between Stonegate Road and Scothall Road has been prepared to be part of Moortown In Bloom. We were asked to go and help with some of the planting in partnership with the Moortown Group. Off we went on Monday morning; we were given high visual vests (very fetching!), gardening gloves and a spade. Several holes were dug and plants were planted and the results will be evident in a few months when the flowers are blooming. Nine pupils from Year 6 represented Moortown Primary School very well; they worked well as a team and dug holes very well! Abdul and Sanna were demon diggers!! Look out this week in the Yorkshire Evening Post as we may appear along with our plants!
SEAL statement 13 June
‘I can get better at my learning‘ is the SEAL statement for this week. In some instances, ‘changes‘ may relate to a change in a child’s learning behaviour. By focussing on and improving learning skills such as listening, concentration and communication, this in turn can help the child to get better at their learning.
Reception Class have been busy writing this week.

This week’s homework is Talk Time and is due in on Wednesday 15 June 2011.
I can talk about ‘old things’ in my community.
As an introduction to our topic this term, I want you to discuss the history of your community. ‘Old things’ can be anything that is not new, but if you’re struggling to come up with something, here are some suggestions:
- Older buildings in the local area. How do they compare with the modern ones?
- Older people in the community. Our elders can tell us a lot about what our community looked like before we were around. Why not ask someone you know who is older than you what your local environment looked like before you were around?
- Why not take a trip to the local library to look at some pictures of what your local community used to look like?
We will be learning about your local community this week, so make sure you find out some interesting facts!
