The children took part in lots of activities last week as part of our ‘Staying Safe’ themed week.
We also thought about our school rules and how these keep us safe.

Who broke the chair in Reception?
Who does the footprint belong to?
The children measured their feet with cubes to prove the footprint wasn’t theirs.
Thank you for attending our ‘stay and play’ session this morning.
We hope you enjoyed looking at your child’s learning journeys. The children really enjoyed sharing them with you.
‘EasyPeasy’ is going live this Saturday 26th January. If you have not opted out you will receive a text message inviting you to access the many educational game ideas that you can do at home.
Each week, you will receive a text message with a new game that you can play in any location with everyday items that you’ll already have at home. EasyPeasy is designed to support learning through play!
This week the activity will be ‘stepping stones’. Let us know how you get on by commenting on the game. Look out for our comment with suggestions of how to adapt the game!
We have enjoyed retelling this story and using story maps to record a different version of the story.
Ask your child to tell you their story.
We have begun phase 3 of the ‘Letters and Sounds’ phonic programme.
The purpose of this phase is to:
• teach more graphemes, most of which are made of two letters, for example, ‘oa’ as in boat
• practise blending and segmenting a wider set of CVC words, for example, fizz, chip, sheep, light
• learn all letter names and begin to form them correctly
• read more tricky words and begin to spell some of them
• read and write words in phrases and sentences.
Here are some examples of words your children will be reading: tail, week, right, soap, food, park, burn, cord, town, soil
Tricky words
During phase 3 the children will learn more ‘Tricky Words’. These are the words we will learn in phase 3:
he, she, we, me, be, was, my, you, her, they, all said
In addition, during this phase children will be expected to begin to write sentences independently.
If you have any questions please ask.
There will be further phonics mornings in February where you will be able to see how we teach the new phonemes.
The children have really impressed us this week with their enthusiasm, confidence and readiness to learn.
Don’t forget to let us know about those ‘wow’ moments at home.
Is your child ‘having a go’ at reading and writing independently?
Are they noticing numbers, patterns and shapes around them?
Please send photos and information about all the learning your child is doing at home.

We have reached the end of the first term in Reception and can’t believe how well the children have settled-and grown!
They have been so motivated to learn and kept us all on our toes! Every child has made fantastic progress, developed good friendships and are happy to join in and take part in all the activities.
Thank you for your help and support over the term.
We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
After reading the book ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell, the children took part in lots of owl themed activities.
They compared the different sized owls and were given the challenge of proving that the mother owl was the tallest.
They drew story maps and added labels and captions to help with their retelling of the story.
Why not ask your child to retell the story to you?
Thank you for attending our maths ‘Stay and Play’ this morning.
We hope you enjoyed learning alongside your children.
