Summer Term!

Hi everybody!

I can’t believe it’s summer term already. Where has the time gone?

I hope you are all feeling happy and healthy – especially now that the weather has improved!

In Y3 this half term, we will be learning about…

  • forces and magnetism in Science
  • computing using Scratch Jr on the Ipads
  • inferring how people are feeling through drama
  • addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in maths
  • prepositions, instructions and writing about computer games in writing
  • basketball and skipping in P.E.
  • solving problems, good hygiene, the importance of sleep and more in Living & Learning
  • different spelling rules and regularly practising our times tables

…and much more!

Below are some pics of us working hard already this half term.

Basketball!

In P.E. this half term, Y3 have bounced their way into some new learning: Basketball.

We had glorious weather last week when practising our dribbling skills!

We practised bouncing whilst standing on the spot. Then, we started walking around whilst bouncing the basketball. After that, we practised using our body to shield the ball while bouncing. Finally, with a partner, we tried to keep possession of the basketball while our partners tried to tackle us!

Here are some pics of us in action!

Book Club

Each Friday, Y3 make their way to the library to enjoy some quiet reading.

Children can browse the selection of books and find a quiet area to sit and enjoy them.

This week, Y3 were enjoying their books calmly and quietly either reading silently alone, or reading quietly together with another person.

If your child has finished a book from the library and it needs changing, they have to bring it back to school before they can get a new one.

A maximum of two books can be taken out at any one time.

Well done, Y3!

A Taste of Trinidad & Tobago

Y3 children playing the steel drum

Today, Y3 and 4’s current topic about ‘Carnival’ and its links to the West Indies came to life in the form of steel drums!

We have been learning all about the West Indies and the countries (lots of islands) that make it up. One of those countries, Trinidad & Tobago, is where the steel drum originates.

Y3 and 4 were lucky enough to have a go themselves at playing the steel drum!

Further your child’s learning by seeing if they can remember where the steel drum comes from and as an extra challenge, if they can remember the three parts of a steel drum! They are: the notes, the skirt and the belly!

Let’s rock for Red Nose Day!

Hello to all of you Times Tables Rock Stars,

This Friday is Red Nose Day and the people at TTRS have come up with a great challenge to raise some extra money.

Prices for a new nose start at 50,000 coins so we’d best get saving.

We’ve got until Friday –  Red Nose Day. Let’s do our bit to help the nation reach that £5,000 target.
