Hello!

This week, Year 3 and 4 have been learning the different ways to spell to ‘ai’ sound. There will be a spelling test next Friday (16.09.22) testing the children on the words below.

This week, we’d like you to practise spelling words that contain the ‘ay’ sound. What makes this tricky is that this sound can be spelled in different ways. For example, in the word ‘eight’ the ‘ay’ sound is made by the letters ‘ei’. However, in the word ‘famous’ the ‘ay’ sound is made by the ‘a’.

Practise spelling these words at home in preparation for our spelling test on Friday 16.09.22.

In our upcoming spelling lessons, we’ll be practising adding ‘cian, sion, ssion and tion’ to words. Have a practise at home to help you with your learning. The words you’ll be tested on are:

attention, fraction, mission, direction, confusion, politician, optician, percussion

Can you spot or think of a rule which helps you remember each ending? We’ll be exploring this in class.

Practise writing the following words with the prefixes ‘mis’ and ‘re’ at the start. The words may work with both prefixes, one prefix or neither. For example, both misinterpret and reinterpret would work. Misimagine would not. Your words are:
